Job Description

Job Description Our client is seeking a Contract Project Engineer to support capital projects at its Rochester manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground role focused primarily on project execution within an operating chemical manufacturing plant. The Project Engineer will lead projects from concept through construction completion, managing contractors, coordinating stakeholders, overseeing budgets and schedules, and ensuring successful turnover for commissioning and startup. While some design and engineering work is involved, the primary focus is executing projects, integrating new equipment and systems into existing operations, and driving projects to completion safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities
  •  Lead capital projects ranging from $100K to several million dollars.
  •  Manage contractors and vendors throughout construction and installation activities.
  •  Obtain and evaluate project bids, quotes, and procurement requirements.
  •  Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, and external contractors.
  •  Oversee project schedules, budgets, and overall execution.
  •  Support engineering designs for modifications and integration of new systems into existing operations.
  •  Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with site standards.
  •  Manage project documentation, punch lists, and mechanical completion activities.
  •  Support equipment turnover and collaborate with Process Engineering during commissioning and startup. Typical Project Types

  •  Pipeline extensions and utility expansions
  •  Brownfield plant modifications and facility improvements
  •  Civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation upgrades

  •  Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
  •  5+ years of experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing environment.
  •  Experience within chemical, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, or process manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
  •  Proven experience managing contractors, construction activities, and capital project execution.
  •  Strong understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, and field execution.
  •  Experience with SAP for procurement, vendor coordination, and project purchasing activities.
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Excel.
  •  Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders.
