Project Engineer - Commercial Construction Job Description This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career construction professional to support commercial projects from preconstruction through closeout. You will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership to coordinate documentation, track progress, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. This position provides hands-on experience across a variety of projects, strong mentorship, and the chance to build a long-term career in commercial construction. The person must be comfortable working on projects in existing correctional facilities. Responsibilities Support project teams throughout the full project lifecycle, from preconstruction planning through project closeout. Assist with the preparation, submission, and tracking of Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and other project documentation. Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to help ensure alignment with project scope and schedule. Help develop, update, and track project schedules in coordination with project leadership. Monitor project progress, materials, and quality, and report any issues or variances to the project team. Coordinate daily activities and communication with Superintendents, subcontractors, and project team members to support smooth field operations. Assist with project closeout processes, including gathering and organizing closeout documentation and ensuring all requirements are met. Support jobsite safety efforts by helping to promote and maintain compliance with safety policies and procedures. Contribute to effective change management by supporting the documentation and coordination of change orders as needed. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other technical documents. Foundational knowledge of construction management and project coordination practices. Experience or training in project management, including scheduling and tracking project progress. Familiarity with Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change order processes. Procore experience for project management and documentation. Bluebeam experience for reviewing and marking up drawings and documents. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Effective communication skills to collaborate with Superintendents, subcontractors, and project teams. Comfort working on projects located in existing correctional facilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in building a long-term career in commercial construction. Desire to gain hands-on experience across a variety of commercial construction projects. Motivation to learn from strong mentorship provided by Project Managers and field leadership. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Ability to work both in the field and in an office setting as project needs require. Work Environment This role is based in a commercial construction environment, with time split between project jobsites and office-based coordination. You will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and other project team members, using tools such as Procore and Bluebeam to manage documentation, schedules, and drawings. Projects include work in existing correctional facilities, so you must be comfortable operating within secure, highly regulated environments and following all site-specific protocols. The work schedule follows typical construction project hours, with the need to align with jobsite activities and milestones. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr. Full medical, dental, and vision insurance. Ability to contribute to a 401k. Constant work since it is primarily all public work. Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Columbus,OH.
