THE POSITION
PennDOT invites you to begin an exciting path as a Civil Engineer Trainee. DOT. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position will prepare for a Civil Engineer position by completing a 12-month Civil Engineering training program. You will learn essential skills through practical assignments and guided instruction. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will perform the following duties:
Survey Support:
Learn and apply surveying techniques for preliminary and construction activities
Drafting Tasks :
Produce basic engineering drawings and design details for transportation projects
Materials Inspection:
Check construction materials and workmanship for compliance with standards
Traffic Studies:
Assist with traffic control reviews and related investigations
Maintenance Activities:

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Limited telework eligibility during probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary:
Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,658.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of civil engineering experience and a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field that includes or is supplemented by major coursework in civil engineering. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within nine months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
