Job Description
Civil Project EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a proactive Civil Project Engineer to lead and deliver municipal, commercial, and transportation civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will manage projects from design through construction, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and client requirements. Strong project management skills are required; expertise in grading, site layout, utility design, storm water management and permitting, and production of CAD deliverables are highly desirable.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead project management activities for civil engineering projects, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and client communication.
Prepare and review civil design documents including grading plans, site layouts, utility design, and storm water management plans.
Develop Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), erosion and sediment control plans, and ensure compliance with local, state and federal storm water regulations.
Produce and check construction drawings and details using AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ensuring accuracy and constructability.
Develop cost estimates, bid packages, and assist with procurement and contractor coordination during bidding and construction phases.
Coordinate permitting and approvals with regulatory agencies, including state DOTs (e.g., ODOT) and local municipalities.
Conduct QA/QC reviews of engineering calculations, plans, and reports; maintain project documentation and engineering files.
Lead or participate in project meetings, provide construction administration support, respond to RFIs, and conduct site visits and inspections as required.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage external consultants and subconsultants to deliver project milestones.
Incorporate sustainability and LEED considerations into designs where applicable and support clients with green building strategies.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field; MS preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required or the ability to obtain licensure within a defined timeframe; PE strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including demonstrated project management responsibilities.
Proven project management skills with experience managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
Experience with grading, site layout, utility design, storm water pollution prevention and storm water management best practices.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience producing construction-level drawings and deliverables.
Familiarity with ODOT (or relevant state DOT) standards and experience coordinating with DOT agencies for permits and approvals.
Experience with erosion and sediment control, SWPPP development, and environmental permitting.
Strong cost estimating and bid preparation experience.
Knowledge of LEED principles and sustainable design practices is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Valid drivers license and ability to perform site visits; ability to travel to project sites as needed.
