Job Description
Senior Structural Engineer
A Senior Structural Engineer with ten to fifteen years of experience for our DC Metro office. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a dynamic and progressive firm. The successful individual will work closely with our business development team and other discipline leaders in developing technical proposals and will take a proactive role in marketing/business development. This role provides the opportunity to help build and mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals within a collaborative multidiscipline office. This candidate will be working directly with clients providing consulting services.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction, utility infrastructure, roadways, erosion control measures and coordinating multifaceted projects. Essential Engineering Skills and Functions:
- Perform the following functions:
- structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & industrial projects
- Design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction.
- Design experience with light gage steel and timber is a plus
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings
- Lead design team efforts
- Manage project team for budget and schedule control
- Develop fee and qualification-based proposals
- Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint software preferred. Must understand database concepts. Working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files.
- Conduct marketing/business development activities
- Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
- Ability to travel
- Work closely with other offices, such as Raleigh, Atlanta structural groups to complete projects and tasks. Education/Experience/Qualifications
- B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
- 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience with computer software programs and analysis systems (such as RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, RamSS, Etabs, Enercalc, etc.).
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills.
- Project Management experience and/or certifications
- Desire to lead inter-disciplinary projects and project teams
- Local AHJ experience and relationships is a plus
- Active local industry involvement is a plus Compensation and Benefits Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
- Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
