Work Location:
Aiken, SC Civil QC Engineer- The Civill QC Engineer will provide hands-on field inspection and quality oversight of civil construction activities, ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, quality requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
Duties:
Perform field QC inspections of civil construction activities, including earthwork, grading, excavation, backfill, compaction, concrete, drainage, demolition, and site infrastructure. Verify construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria. Monitor soil placement, moisture conditioning, lift thickness, compaction, density testing, and related earthwork activities. Inspect concrete activities including reinforcing steel, embeds, formwork, placement, testing, and final acceptance as applicable. Support inspection of storm, sewer, water, and related site systems. Review testing and inspection results, material certifications, receiving documentation, and other quality records. Document inspection results and maintain complete, accurate, and traceable quality records. Identify and document nonconforming conditions and support NCR resolution and corrective actions through closure. Coordinate with Construction, Engineering, Quality, subcontractors, testing laboratories, and other project personnel to resolve field quality issues. Support quality surveillances, audits, turnover activities, and final documentation. Immediately communicate conditions adverse to quality in accordance with project requirements.
Skills/Experience:
Three (3)+ years of Civil QC, construction inspection, materials testing, or closely related civil construction quality experience. Demonstrated field experience with earthwork, soils, grading, excavation/backfill, compaction, concrete, or similar heavy civil construction activities. Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, inspection plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria. Experience documenting inspections and maintaining quality records. Working knowledge of construction testing and inspection practices. Must be able to perform field inspections in an active construction environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quality, or a related technical field. Previous DOE, nuclear, federal, or other highly regulated construction experience. Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 and/or DOE quality requirements. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification. NICET, ICC, or similar civil/construction inspection certification. Nuclear Density Gauge certification or experience with soil density/compaction testing. Experience with geotechnical testing, aggregate testing, asphalt, geosynthetics, or materials laboratory activities. Previous experience with underground construction or site utility installation. Experience with NCRs, corrective actions, surveillances, audits, and turnover documentation.
