About Tyndall Engineering and Design Founded in 2001, Tyndall Engineering and Design, P.A. is a structural engineering consulting firm based in Garner, NC. We are licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Kentucky, and Connecticut. Our team of experts takes pride in designing the structural systems that support the places where people live, work, shop, and play—from concrete foundations and steel columns to wood framing and masonry shear walls. With experience spanning both new construction and the analysis of existing structures, we offer comprehensive services tailored to meet each project's unique needs.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Structural Field Technician to support our engineering team both in the field and in the office. This hybrid role involves assisting with structural assessments, preparing technical documents and drawings, and collaborating with engineers, clients, and contractors throughout various project phases. The ideal candidate combines technical acumen with strong communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct field assessments and gather structural data for analysis and reporting. Assist engineers with structural design and analysis based on applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Draft and revise engineering design documents, technical reports, and sketches using CAD and design software. Interpret construction drawings and fabrication plans to support structural evaluations. Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues during project execution. Prepare and coordinate technical documentation, including site notes, photographs, and calculation summaries. Communicate project updates and findings to project managers, clients, and general contractors. Assist in marketing engineering services to potential clients during field interactions. Provide guidance to design and drafting teams to ensure quality and constructability of structural details.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field (or equivalent field experience). 2+ years of experience in structural engineering, construction, or field inspections. Proficiency in CAD software and computer-assisted design tools. Working knowledge of structural systems, materials, and building codes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to travel to job sites and work in varying field conditions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. North Carolina Driver's License with clean driving record.
Work Environment:
This role requires both office-based work and on-site fieldwork, which may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, or exposure to construction environments.
