The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lamar University invites applications for Adjunct Faculty positions to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Adjunct faculty are appointed on a semester-by-semester basis based on departmental instructional needs. Successful candidates will provide high-quality instruction and support student success while working collaboratively with the department faculty. Prepare and deliver assigned undergraduate and/or graduate Civil and Environmental Engineering courses. Develop instructional materials, evaluate student learning, maintain course records, and submit grades according to university deadlines. Maintain communication with students and the department regarding course-related matters. Attend required meetings and complete administrative responsibilities associated with assigned courses. Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate engineering courses. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively engage and mentor students. Commitment to fostering a supportive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment that promotes student success.

Desired Qualifications:

Previous college-level teaching experience. Professional engineering industry experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology. Expertise in one or more areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including but not limited to structural, geotechnical, environmental, transportation, water resources, construction, or surveying.

Key Competencies:

Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Prepare course materials, syllabi, assignments, and examinations. Evaluate student performance and submit grades in accordance with university deadlines. Maintain regular communication with students and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.

Job Conditions:

Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, and/or online instructional settings. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, or online courses. Adjunct appointments are temporary and contingent upon departmental needs, student enrollment, and available funding. Regular interaction with students, faculty, and staff is required.
