Overview:
The Structural Engineer 1 (PE) is responsible for reviewing, approving, and signing/sealing structural plans, calculations, and related engineering documents as required. This role ensures structural designs meet ARCXIS standards, applicable building codes, windstorm/TDI requirements, and jurisdictional compliance expectations across multiple markets. This position also serves as a technical resource for the Structural Department, assists with departmental standards and SOPs, resolves field issues, mentors younger engineers and EITs, develops new structural techniques, and assists with research and development as ARCXIS expands into new states and markets. Key Responsibilities Review structural designs, plans, calculations, and details prepared by the Structural Department Approve, sign, and seal structural plans and calculations as required and within jurisdictions where properly licensed Ensure structural designs comply with applicable building codes, engineering standards, ARCXIS standards, and jurisdictional requirements Serve as a technical resource for the Structural Department Assist in establishing and maintaining structural design standards, details, calculation procedures, and quality-control processes Resolve structural and construction-related field issues Develop practical and code-compliant engineering solutions and repair recommendations Train and mentor younger engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs) Provide technical guidance on structural design, code interpretation, calculations, constructability, and field issues Assist with research and development for expansion into new states and jurisdictions Research applicable building codes, design criteria, construction requirements, and engineering requirements for new markets Assist with evaluating new engineering software, products, construction methods, and technologies Communicate with builders, contractors, clients, field personnel, and internal teams regarding structural engineering matters Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and project reviews as needed Support continuous improvement of Structural Department processes, quality, and efficiency
Requirements:
Experience & Qualifications Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with structural engineering experience 4+ years of structural design experience Extensive experience in wood-frame construction for single-family homes Well-rounded experience in wood framing, including stick framing and roof trusses, concrete foundations, and steel framing Strong knowledge of IRC, IBC, ASCE, ACI, PTI, and AISC codes and standards Excellent AutoCAD skills Experience with structural design software, including Enercalc, Revit, PTISlab, RetainPro, and Forte Experience with retaining walls, ICF, post-tensioned foundations, and forensic engineering is a plus Experience with construction defects and deficiencies is a plus Prior engineering report-writing experience is preferred but not required Strong written and oral communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Self-starter with the ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and be resourceful Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with a professional presence Team player with a positive and energetic attitude Willingness to learn and adapt to changes in company policies and procedures Strong quantitative and qualitative research and analytical skills Valid driver's license with the ability to travel as required
