Summary:

Applies engineering principles to design and install distribution systems in a safe, efficient, and practical manner. Manages projects during field installations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies, and coordination of gas distribution facilities installations. Analyzes load, pressure requirements, future growth, and other variables during the design process.
• Oversees the layout, sizing, and specification of pipeline equipment, economic justifications, and indirect supervision of others when project teamwork is required.
• Creates engineering drawings and effectively communicates design details to field personnel and contractors.
• Conducts distribution system pressure and cathodic protection studies.
• Makes and maintains external contacts to assure that materials, supplies, and information are available as needed and that information is exchanged with external sources, agencies, and local utilities on line locations and planned projects.

Prepares economic justification (concise, factual, and conclusive statements of the purpose, merits, and necessity) for each project proposed to assist management with the evaluation of capital investment, including budget items and completion reports for specific construction projects.

Reviews completed work orders and cost data to assure conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges, and updates estimated unit prices as needed.

Assists in the evaluation of system operations and troubleshoots problems.

Education:

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or another approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of five years of experience in utility design or related project construction design. Additional Knowledge, Skill, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics (KSLAPs): Demonstrates and applies excellent oral and written communication skill. Communicates and interacts with all levels of management and associates and performs well in a team environment. Represents the company in a professional manner in matters and meetings with both private and public entities and officials. Cultivates relationships and partners with business and community contacts to achieve business results. Collaborates across functional boundaries to improve business processes. Uses PC software proficiently, including word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet programs. Learns and uses mainframe computers and PC software, including

SAP & FIN

modules, Microstation, Stoner, and ArcInfo. Motivates self, accomplishes tasks, and achieves goals with minimal supervision, including self-directed learning. Identifies solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking. Demonstrates effective project management and time management to meet project deadlines and remain within budget. Multi-tasks and manages several projects or activities at one time. Uses initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks. Applies extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and

regulations. Makes sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and company policies. Provides and maintains a valid state driver's license and safe driving record. Operates a company vehicle in compliance with applicable laws and company policies. Demonstrates commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other company policies and procedures, taking all required training courses timely. Demonstrates respect for all individuals and adheres to the company's values and business practices consistently.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Sits, stands, or walks for long periods of time. Views computer terminals for extended periods of time. Demonstrates manual dexterity to operate a personal computer. Operates copy machines, fax machines, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment. Works a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands. Operates and drives a motor vehicle for multiple-hour trips.

Working Conditions:

Works indoors in a normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment, and noise when at field installation sites. Travels as necessary to off-site locations, with occasional overnight stays required. Works in a fast-paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines. Works occasional overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
