Civil Engineer The Civil Engineer will support civil design and drafting for utility-scale energy and infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on producing accurate, high-quality engineering drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D. The position will work under the direction of experienced engineers and Professional Engineers and will contribute to design development, drawing production, project standards, and Civil 3D templates and workflows. This position is based in the Richmond, Virginia office. Essential Responsibilities Prepare and revise civil engineering drawings for utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, substations, transmission facilities, and related infrastructure. Perform drafting and design work in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including site layouts, grading plans, access roads, drainage features, erosion and sediment control plans, and other site-development drawings. Develop and maintain Civil 3D drawing templates, styles, layer standards, sheet setups, blocks, and other drafting standards used across projects. Build and modify Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading objects, pipe networks, and related design elements. Import, organize, and work with survey data, topographic information, point files, surfaces, and other project base data. Assist engineers with grading, earthwork, drainage, roadway, and site-development design. Prepare plan sets, details, exhibits, quantity takeoffs, and other engineering deliverables. Incorporate engineer, client, and project-team comments into drawings and design packages. Coordinate drawing information with electrical, structural, substation, transmission, and other engineering disciplines. Perform drawing checks for completeness, consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company drafting standards. Assist with the development and continuous improvement of CAD standards, design workflows, templates, and engineering production processes. Extract points, surfaces, alignments, and other drawing information for construction and field use. Support preparation of permit drawings, construction documents, technical exhibits, and record drawings. Assist with responses to RFIs, drawing revisions, and other design changes during construction. Participate in site visits and field verification activities as needed. Develop familiarity with applicable civil engineering codes, standards, permitting requirements, and accepted design practices. Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related technical discipline. 0-3 years of civil engineering, drafting, design, or related technical experience. Experience using AutoCAD. Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including working with surfaces, alignments, profiles, grading, and drawing production. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate engineering drawings. Ability to read and interpret civil plans, surveys, and technical drawings. Ability to organize drawing files and maintain clear project documentation. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new design tools and workflows. Ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams. Preferred Qualifications Internship, co-op, academic, or professional experience involving civil design, land development, utilities, renewable energy, or infrastructure. Experience preparing grading, drainage, roadway, or site-development drawings. Experience establishing or maintaining Civil 3D templates, styles, standards, or sheet-production workflows. Familiarity with survey data, topographic surfaces, earthwork calculations, and construction plan sets. Familiarity with utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, substations, or other energy infrastructure. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional engineering licensure. Work Environment Work is primarily performed in the Richmond, Virginia office. This is an in-office engineering and design position with periodic field work and project-site visits as required. Travel Estimated travel is 10%.
