The role assists in site inspections, data collection, and report preparation, gaining foundational experience in various engineering elements of water/wastewater utility infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Support planning, design, and construction-phase services for municipal water and wastewater conveyance and treatment infrastructure, including pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, and treatment facility improvements. Conduct basic site investigations and assessments of existing conditions for project sites. Assist with hydraulic calculations for gravity sewer, water distribution, force main, and pumping systems under the direction of senior staff. Review record drawings, utility information, survey data, GIS information, and vendor data to support design development and document existing conditions. Identify and confirm compliance with relevant specifications, drawings, and permits to ensure adherence to project documents. Assist in the development of the following design elements: Site planning Paving and grading Stormwater management Yard piping and utilities design Erosion and sediment control designs Mechanical above ground piping, valves, and equipment Support collection of site and vendor data Support senior engineers with construction phase services Support construction phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observation reports, and documentation of field conditions. Coordinate with multidisciplinary team members, including civil, process mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and construction staff. Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. Skills and Competencies Applies foundational engineering principles to analyze gravity and pressurized pipe flow, with general familiarity in pumped system concepts. Basic understanding of municipal water and wastewater systems, including pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, treatment facilities, and related appurtenances. Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in providing well-defined solutions to routine problems. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, details, and permit requirements. Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic modeling tools, engineering calculation software, or similar design and analysis tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and coordination with internal project teams. Ability to follow set procedures and guidelines diligently. Experience Typically, 0-4 years of related work experience in civil or environmental engineering or related field. Has passed or is working towards passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam required for Engineer-in-Training registration. Education A bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field, or equivalent experience is required.
