Engineering Technician II Salary $54,430.63 - $61,234.46 Annually Location Bismarck, ND Job Type Full-Time Job Number 202600066 Department Engineering Opening Date 07/13/2026 Closing Date 7/26/2026 11:59 PM Central FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Job Description This position assists with technical plan review, field surveying, construction inspection, project design and project management functions. Examples of Duties
- Conducts development/site inspections to ensure compliance with city regulations.
- Monitors the work of contractors engaged in city projects to ensure compliance with project specifications and city standards.
- Performs plan, specification and design review.
- Conducts or assists in conducting topographic, construction, traffic and inventory surveys.
- Assists in the development and review of plans and specifications for city related projects.
- Uses computer hardware and software to create comprehensive documents, create and input spreadsheets, prepare databases, and file electronic documents.
- Assists with the review of site plans or construction plans for compliance with city regulations
- Assists with engineering bid proposals.
- Investigates citizen complaints.
- Assists the public and consulting engineers in understanding and complying with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
- Provides technical support for the work of other city departments.
- Provides computer aided drafting and operates GIS system as needed.
- Performs related duties. Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with the completion of a high school diploma or GED.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of: o An apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for four years or o A certification or an associate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field and two years of related experience.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Supplemental Information

- Knowledge of materials, methods and tools used in the construction, maintenance or repair of public works infrastructure.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Knowledge of the techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
- Knowledge of methods, instruments, techniques, principles and practices of land surveying.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in preparing and interpreting engineering reports and technical specifications.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
