Job Description

Principal Engineering Aide Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities Location:
Ellery Landfill - Chautauqua County, NY Full-Time Position Overview The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities is seeking qualified applicants for one Full-Time Principal Engineering Aide position at the Ellery Landfill. This is a technical engineering position responsible for assisting with the planning, design, implementation, and oversight of public works projects. The Principal Engineering Aide works with professional engineering staff while independently handling moderately complex assignments and providing day-to-day supervision and coordination of assigned projects. This position is ideal for someone with a background in engineering technology, civil engineering support, construction, surveying, or related technical work who is ready to take on greater project and supervisory responsibility. What You'll Do Responsibilities may include: Plan and design engineering projects of moderate size and complexity. Determine materials and other resources needed for construction projects. Assist engineers with the planning and design of larger and more complex projects. Plan and supervise field survey activities. Prepare construction cost and material estimates. Assist with the preparation of bid specifications and other project documents. Perform calculations related to rights-of-way. Assist with inspections of projects during construction. Perform engineering-related calculations and field work. Assist with traffic engineering activities, including determining recommended speeds for curves, intersections, and other roadway areas. Assist with the layout and placement of roadway signs. Provide day-to-day project coordination and oversight. Supervise a small group of lower-level Engineering Aides. Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and meet one of the following:
Option A:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university in a field closely related to Engineering Technology.
OR Option B:
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university in a field closely related to Engineering Technology, plus four (4) years of experience in sub-professional civil engineering work.
OR Option C:
Six (6) years of experience in sub-professional engineering work. Civil Service Appointment This position will be filled on a provisional basis from approved applications received. The selected candidate will be required to take a competitive Chautauqua County Civil Service examination when one is scheduled at a later date. Why Join Chautauqua County? Pay:
