In this role you will provide experienced, technical, organizational and design support to the Transmission Project Engineering Group within the organization. Work associated with this position will be directly related to scope and design projects for transmission lines, fiber-optic cable, and wireless installations. Work also includes providing support for the system of naming and design documents and records associated with those facilities. Key Responsibilities for
Senior Civil Engineering Technician:
Perform design, drafting, and revision work for complex capital transmission projects and fiber-optic systems (including but not limited to structure lists, phasing diagrams, one-line diagrams, site data sheets, site specific drawings, fiber-optic cable splice diagrams) using MicroStation CAD, adapting standard designs or producing custom layouts as needed. Complete and produce comprehensive final design packages including detailed design drawings and supporting documents. Review material, equipment, and customer-submitted drawings (from internal engineering, A&E contractors, and utility customers) to ensure alignment with company and industry technical specifications. As a team member of the Naming Committee, assist in the drafting of official design and line naming memos for transmission facilities. Maintain contracted design submittals, support the development of submittal processes, and draft approved line-naming memos to ensure strict compliance with official Facilities Naming Policies. Create proposals for, modify, and maintain departmental drafting standards while providing specialized technical expertise to support division-wide drafting standardization efforts. Receive, process, and attribute incoming transmission and fiber optic design files. Maintain electronic and paper repositories (such as ProjectWise and SharePoint) to store, track, and index diagrams to facilitate federal archiving. Convert legacy paper design drawings into digital formats using MicroStation CAD, gather, tabulate, and archive legacy system data into ProjectWise for verification and permanent archiving. Process as-built data to post-construction drawing revisions, submitting them for review and approval before finalization. Provide day-to-day technical support to design staff, contractors, and technicians. Create and deliver training materials (including presentations, reports, Power Points and manuals) to teach new hires and field personnel how to navigate systems and retrieve design data. Requirements/Qualification for
Senior Civil Engineering Technician:
U.S. Citizenship and valid U.S. Driver's License required. A degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field is preferred. With a Bachelor's degree in an applicable field, 6 years of experience is required. With an Associate's degree in an applicable field, 8 years of experience is required. Without an applicable degree, 10 years of experience is required. Experience must include specific engineering technician experience and demonstrate a wide range of project tasks, as well as exercising a comprehensive degree of creativity and latitude, with increased accountability for results and level of difficulty of tasks. 5+ years' experience in MicroStation CAD platform or similar program and associated add-on products. 5+ years' experience maintaining ProjectWise or similar document management software. •We are unable to accommodate corp. to corp. candidates•
