Job Description
Come join the Core Integration Architecture (CIA) team and help invent the future of computing. We're a small team of experienced product design engineers working across many disciplines, responsible to develop foundational core technologies, novel ways to integrate them, and new product architectures to surprise and delight our customers. The group is responsible for future Mac products (portables, desktops, and standalone displays) in addition to new product categories. We work closely with apple's Industrial Design team to explore the form and function of future products. Through relentless iteration on various concepts, we aim to create the best products we can possibly imagine. Along the way we collaborate with world-class specialists, from materials science and advanced manufacturing to thermal design and custom silicon engineering. As products come to form, we simulate, prototype, and test the reliability of our designs to make sure our systems continue to be the highest quality and longest-lasting on the market. Because we aspire to invent things that haven't existed before, we place a premium on creativity and the ability to generate imaginative design solutions. Future team members need to be comfortable in the ambiguity of the unknown. Some ideas will work out and some won't, so we need to hold on loosely to concepts as we test them collectively. Description In this particular role we are looking for a mid-level design engineer to join our team and help develop future architecture platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience with module and system architecture and all of the cross-functional specialties that need to be considered (mechanical, materials, reliability, EE, RF, de-sense, energy storage, display, input devices, etc). In this position, you will assist in the following activities: Contribute novel design solutions to new and existing challenges, aspiring to think different Prototyping new product ideas by 3D modeling, fabricating, assembling, and testing mockups Drive cross-functional technology explorations, development, and system integration Drive designs from blue sky concept to a coherent, resolved architecture Preferred Qualifications Able to characterize designs, run DOEs, and conduct root cause failure analysis Experience juggling parallel design paths and adapting to ID direction Able to leverage creativity to champion product vision with cross-functional partners Excellent communication and listening skills Your ideas are only as good as your ability to share them Committed to high presentation quality Receptive and adaptable to leadership direction Genuine curiosity and appreciation of industrial design Occasional international travel when required Minimum Qualifications BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required; MS preferred. 7+ years designing consumer electronics or similarly complex products 3D CAD modeling - i.e., NX (preferred), SolidWorks, ProE experience selecting appropriate engineering materials and manufacturing methods (CNC, forming, injection molding, rapid prototyping, etc.) Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
