What to Expect The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of this mission, Tesla is pursuing an ambitious goal to deploy 100 GW of annual solar cell and panel manufacturing capacity in the United States. As a Systems Architect, you will help define and lead Tesla's strategy to meet those goals by leveraging physics fundamentals, systems optimization thinking and simulation tools. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, sales and finance and requires the ability to distill highly technical information and effectively communicate with other teams and management. What You'll Do Lead system architecture and product optimization for solar products all the way from site to cell, leveraging first-principles physics models to derive design sensitivities and constraints Owns development of system requirements, distributes function and performance to components within systems, defines system hardware and software architecture, defines electrical, mechanical, and communication interfaces for components to meet those goals Collaborate directly with design, integration, compliance, reliability, product, and service teams for system architecture and design development Defines electrical, mechanical, and communication interfaces for components Captures requirements in a formal management tool Leads and contribute to cross-functional design reviews for development efforts Works directly with system test team for system test plan development and validation of system design requirements What You'll Bring Systems level thinker with evidence of driving product design optimization across products, disciplines and teams Fundamentals in photovoltaics (mandatory), power electronics, and battery technology (preferred) Ability to generate and interpret simulation results and integrate recommendations into product designs Fluency in Python, Matlab / Simulink Experience with system level architectures comprising electrical, thermal, mechanical and FW/SW sub-systems Specification definition (performance, functional, dimensional, manufacturing) Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting skills Experience solving open-ended engineering problems Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience Solid engineering fundamentals - electrical and mechanical Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $112,000 - $312,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
