Job Description
Civil Designer - Land Development Job Description This role offers the opportunity to join a Planning, Development and Natural Resources team as a Civil Designer focused on land development projects. You will contribute to the planning and design of residential communities, retail centers, parks, educational facilities, industrial sites, manufacturing plants, and commercial developments that balance today's needs with long-term sustainability. Working alongside a highly respected group of design professionals and a full-service surveying staff, you will help deliver effective, sustainable solutions for land planning, permitting, stormwater management, development, and land management needs. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented designer who wants to grow their technical skills, work on impactful community projects, and advance within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment. Responsibilities Provide technical and design services in support of civil engineering and land development projects as part of a multidisciplinary project team. Produce design and construction drawings and specifications for site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and related civil works. Complete assigned design tasks within established budgets and schedules while maintaining high quality standards. Collaborate and communicate proactively with Project Managers, Engineers, and other design team members to complete work efficiently and resolve design issues. Lead the design and layout of engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with applicable standards and codes. Prepare and update drawings, sketches, and details as required to support project design and permitting. Assist in securing permits from appropriate governmental and regulatory agencies by preparing supporting documentation and responding to comments. Prepare quantity takeoffs and related information to support cost estimating and project budgeting. Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and related CAD tools to model sites, design grading, and generate plans, profiles, and cross-sections. Support land development, site development, stormwater, and drainage design tasks across a variety of project types and markets. Essential Skills 1+ years of experience in civil design and drafting, specifically supporting land development or site development projects. Vocational certificate or two-year degree in civil technology, or a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design, drafting, grading, and plan production. Experience producing civil engineering drawings and layouts, including site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, and related details. Working knowledge of land development processes, including site development, stormwater, drainage, and grading concepts. Ability to complete design tasks on time and within budget while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary team members. Ability to prepare quantities and basic takeoffs to support cost estimating. General understanding of permitting processes with governmental and regulatory agencies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newark, DE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
