EXPECTATIONS
At Petra Custom Builders, our mission is to provide an unparalleled experience through collaborative efforts, streamlining communication, and managing expectations.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Design Drafter owns drawing production for the Petra design team. This role turns concept designs into complete permit and construction document sets in Revit, and brings the design judgment to resolve layouts, details, and code conflicts along the way. Roughly 80 percent of the role is drafting and documentation. The remaining 20 percent is design support and homeowner engagement, including design meetings, field measures, and walking clients through drawings.

Permit sets go in complete and clear plan review with minimal comment rounds Drawings match the scope that estimation prices and production builds Projects move from concept to permit without waiting on the drawing set The design team runs with more capacity and less dependence on any one person
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Drafting and Documentation Build existing conditions models in Revit from Matterport scans, field measures, and as-builts Translate concept designs into complete schematic, design development, and construction document sets Develop floor plans, elevations, sections, interior elevations, cabinetry and millwork drawings, and construction details Research zoning and permit requirements for every project, including setbacks, height, floor area, Boulder County BuildSmart, and City of Boulder energy code Prepare permit submittals for Boulder, Boulder County, Louisville, Longmont, and surrounding jurisdictions, and respond to plan review comments Incorporate structural, energy, and mechanical consultant input into the drawing set Issue revisions and maintain drawing logs and version control Develop and maintain Revit templates, families, and detail libraries Design and Client Support Develop layout options and space planning alternatives Attend client design meetings and walk homeowners through drawings Turn client and designer redlines into revisions on schedule Produce renderings and presentation drawings in Twin Motion Coordinate with estimating so scope and quantities match the drawing set Answer field questions and issue clarifications during production Participate in site visits, field measures, and construction walk-throughs
QUALIFICATIONS
Three or more years producing residential drawing sets, with custom residential or remodel experience required. Commercial-only backgrounds will not be considered. Advanced proficiency in Revit Working knowledge of the IRC, energy code, and residential construction methods Strong design sensibility in proportion, detailing, and space planning Experience with Twin Motion, Enscape, or similar rendering tools a plus Proficient in BlueBeam, Matterport, and Microsoft Office Suite Accurate, organized, and deadline-driven across multiple projects at once Communicates clearly with homeowners, designers, and the field Receives redlines and feedback without defensiveness Curiosity, humility, and a desire to keep learning
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
