Xavier Design Build, Inc. is a full-service design-build firm with more than 30 years of work behind us, licensed across Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C. We build automobile dealerships, commercial and retail developments, industrial and institutional facilities, and interior renovations — from focused build-outs to multi-million-dollar ground-up projects. What makes us different is that design and construction sit under one roof. Our architecture and design team works alongside the people who put the building up, which means your drawings get real feedback from the field and your details get built the way you drew them. We are growing our Fort Lauderdale operation and are looking for a designer who can own a drawing set.

THE ROLE

You will produce complete commercial construction document sets — renovations, additions, and ground-up projects up to 250,000 square feet — working directly with our principals, project managers, and consultant team. This is a hands-on production role with real ownership: you take projects from schematic design through permit and into construction administration, and you stay with them. We are not looking for someone who only red-lines other people's drawings. We are looking for someone who knows what belongs in a set, catches what is missing, and can defend the drawings to a plans examiner.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Construction Documents Produce full CD sets in

Revit and AutoCAD:

cover sheet, code analysis and life-safety plans, occupancy and egress calculations, accessibility compliance, demolition plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, enlarged plans, partition types, exterior elevations, building and wall sections, roof plans, details, and door, window, finish, and equipment schedules. Develop projects through every phase — programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration. Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, sheet indexes, families, and templates so every set that leaves the office looks like it came from the same firm. Coordination & Permitting Coordinate with civil, structural, MEP, fire protection, and specialty consultants; run model and clash coordination so conflicts surface on screen instead of in the field. Assemble and submit permit packages to County and municipal building departments, and respond to plan review comments through to approval. Prepare addenda, bulletins, revision clouds, and as-built record drawings; answer RFIs and field questions during construction. Field-verify existing conditions and produce accurate as-built base drawings for renovation and addition work. Design & Visualization Build SketchUp massing and design studies to test options quickly with clients and our preconstruction team. Produce renderings and presentation graphics for client meetings, project pursuits, and municipal or board presentations. Rendering ability is a strong plus and will factor into compensation. Support preconstruction with model-based quantity take-offs and area calculations.

WHAT YOU NEED

Experience:

5-8 years producing commercial construction documents at an architecture firm, design-build firm, or contractor with in-house design. Ground-up experience is required, not just interiors.

Proof you can do it:

A demonstrated history of taking a commercial project from concept through a permitted set. You should be able to walk us through a set you drew and explain why each sheet is there.

Software:

Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. Working proficiency in SketchUp.

Code knowledge:

Working command of the Florida Building Code, including High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements applicable in Broward County, along with life safety, egress, and accessibility standards.

Judgment:

You know how a building goes together — wall assemblies, roofing, waterproofing, structure, and how a detail actually gets built. You catch coordination errors before the sub does.

Communication:

Clear, professional, and comfortable talking to clients, consultants, plan reviewers, and superintendents.

Logistics:

Authorized to work in the United States, able to work on-site in Fort Lauderdale, and willing to visit project sites. Valid driver's license.

NICE TO HAVE

Rendering and visualization tools — Enscape, Lumion, Twinmotion, V-Ray, or 3ds Max. Bluebeam Revu, Navisworks, Adobe Creative Suite, Procore. Automotive dealership, retail, industrial, or institutional project experience. Professional degree in architecture; licensed architect or actively pursuing licensure. Experience on the contractor side — value engineering, constructibility review, or shop drawing review. Bilingual English / Spanish.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

$80,000 - $105,000 per year, depending on experience, portfolio, and rendering capability. Strong candidates outside this band are still encouraged to apply — we will have the conversation.
