We welcome candidates with contract furniture or commercial design experience, but we're also open to individuals from other professional backgrounds who have the aptitude and interest to develop expertise in this specialized field. Our Designers combine creative problem-solving, technical knowledge and attention to detail to develop functional, thoughtful furniture solutions for our clients. This is a highly technical design role that requires someone who can manage complexity, exercise good judgment and take responsibility for producing accurate work. What You'll Do Our projects are managed by a Project Team made up of a Salesperson, Designer and Project Coordinator , with each role bringing different expertise and responsibilities to the project. As the technical design expert on the team, you will: Develop space plans and furniture solutions based on client needs, project requirements and the direction of the Project Team. Recommend products and design solutions using technical knowledge, creativity and good design judgment. Create drawings and specifications using CET by Configura and other specialized software. Space plan around real-world building conditions such as walls, windows, electrical locations, light switches, thermostats and other architectural elements while considering accessibility and applicable space-planning requirements. Specify furniture, components, finishes and related products accurately and completely. Visit jobsites to field measure and document existing conditions. Participate in client and internal project meetings. Carefully review your own work for accuracy and identify potential issues before they become problems. Support projects through installation, including working with installers in the field to resolve design and technical questions when needed. Manage multiple projects and meet committed deadlines. The position requires a high degree of ownership. Project schedules occasionally require work outside normal business hours, including evenings or weekends, to meet a deadline. While this is not expected to be routine, a willingness to do what is reasonably necessary to meet project commitments is an important part of the role. What We're Looking For The strongest candidates will have: A high sense of responsibility, conscientiousness and follow-through Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy The ability to understand and work through complex, interconnected information Strong spatial reasoning, problem-solving and design judgment The ability to balance creativity with technical requirements and established processes Strong computer aptitude and the ability to learn specialized software The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Project Team Strong organization, time management and communication skills Comfort working both at a computer and in the field Experience in contract furniture or commercial space planning is a plus but not required . Experience with CET, AutoCAD, drafting, space-planning software or other technical design programs can provide a helpful foundation. A Specialized Career Contract furniture design has a significant learning curve. A new Designer will develop knowledge of specialized software, furniture systems and products, technical requirements, space planning, field conditions and project processes. Candidates new to the industry should expect the first one to two years to involve significant learning and development as they build knowledge, proficiency and speed. Compensation Compensation:
$50,000-$60,000 annualized base compensation, depending on experience and level, plus commission. Position may be hourly/non-exempt or salaried/exempt depending on level and responsibilities.
