Job Description

The Team We are seeking a Specialty Engineering II to join American Tower's U.S. Tower division's Engineering department's Specialty Engineering team. The team develops infrastructure designs to support the construction of a diverse group of telecommunications facilities including civil site and small data center solutions. These designs include, but are not limited to, civil engineering for access roads, small- to medium sized buildings, fiber and copper infrastructure, electrical power plants, battery backup, etc., all of which aim to build a scalable and robust infrastructure for deploying network solutions. Day to day responsibilities include the end-to-end ownership of engineering-related tasks for land development projects for various types of communication infrastructure, namely data centers, cellular telecommunication sites, and broadcast facilities. You will support internal and external resources to ensure completed designs meet or exceed technical requirements and enable the successful construction and implementation of these communication facilities. In this role, you will gain valuable experience, mentorship, and skills from a wide variety of projects. What You Need to Succeed Either a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and three years of relevant experience, or an engineering technical degree and six years of relevant experience required. Proficient with Autodesk Civil 3D, and other common discipline-specific analysis tools for retaining wall designs and stormwater analyses required. 1 year of Revit experience required. Professional Engineering license preferred. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible engineering experience with direct involvement in discipline-specific design solutions and designs as a primary job responsibility preferred. Strong critical thinking skills with a capability to work both independently and with others to solve problems. Approximately 10% travel may be required to support the position's responsibilities. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively. Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results. Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment. What You Can Offer Us Use tools such as AutoCAD and/or Civil3D to perform tasks of medium complexity related to civil engineering, building design, and/or network infrastructure designs. Act as a project manager to project stakeholders for infrastructure designs. Oversee and assist with the training of entry-level engineers and peers. Triage multiple project types of moderate complexity and adequately understand both the projects' requirements and what the required supplemental documents are. Prepare civil-site construction drawings that comply with building codes, AutoCAD standards, and engineering principles and maintain site-specific digital twin documentation post-construction. Lead design strategies for discipline-specific decisions for assigned projects. Regularly communicate with counterparts outside of the engineering department who represent the team managing site-specific designs; manage a single program type when needed. Continuously learn and apply new industry concepts and technologies. Understand and implement appropriate specialty engineering requirements (e.g., access road layouts; grading and stormwater designs; building structural, power, and code; etc.). Manage vendors by writing detailed scopes of work for various field or design services for simpler projects. Other duties as assigned.
