This role is responsible for overseeing commercial design quality, managing project execution, developing team members, and supporting the continued growth of Tyndall's architectural services. This person will lead approximately four direct reports and serve as a hands-on people leader, technical reviewer, project guide, and client-facing representative. The ideal candidate is a licensed architect with strong commercial design experience, proven leadership capability, and the ability to bring consistency, quality, and accountability to a growing design team. Mission of the Role Build and lead a high-performing commercial architectural design team that delivers accurate, timely, high-quality work while improving team accountability, internal coordination, client confidence, and the long-term scalability of Tyndall's architectural design practice. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop approximately four direct reports within the commercial architectural design team.
  • Oversee and participate in commercial architectural design projects from concept through documentation and coordination.
  • Set clear expectations for project quality, deadlines, communication, accountability, and client responsiveness.
  • Review drawings, plans, documentation, and deliverables for accuracy, consistency, code awareness, and client alignment.
  • Implement design standards, templates, review processes, and QA/QC workflows that improve consistency and reduce rework.
  • Balance team workload, assign priorities, and reduce bottlenecks that slow project delivery.
  • Collaborate with structural engineering, field services, leadership, clients, consultants, and internal project stakeholders.
  • Support client communication, proposal development, project scoping, and commercial architecture growth efforts as needed.
  • Identify staffing, training, process, and technology needs that will help the team scale effectively. Required Qualifications
  • Licensed Architect.
  • Commercial architectural design experience.
  • People leadership experience, ideally managing designers, architectural staff, project teams, or direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of architectural documentation, design standards, coordination, and project delivery.
  • Ability to review technical work while coaching and developing people.
  • Strong communication skills with clients, internal teams, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work on-site in Garner, NC. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading commercial projects across multiple building types.
  • Experience developing design standards, templates, or QA/QC processes.
  • Experience working in a growing architecture, engineering, or design firm.
  • Ability to support business development through client conversations, proposals, or project interviews.
  • Experience improving team workflow, accountability, turnaround time, and quality control.
