Type:
full-time Full-Time | North Wales, Pennsylvania | Client-Site Travel Throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey Distinctive Outdoor Structures is seeking an Outdoor Living Project Designer who can help homeowners reimagine how they relax, entertain, and spend time outside. Exceptional outdoor spaces begin with understanding the people who will use them. How do they want the space to feel? How should it connect with their home? What would make it more comfortable, functional, and enjoyable throughout the year? Our Project Designers turn those conversations into thoughtfully planned outdoor environments that feel intentional, refined, and personal. About the Role The Outdoor Living Project Designer is a creative, client-facing position that combines design thinking, relationship development, spatial awareness, and project guidance. You will work directly with residential homeowners, leading them from their initial inquiry through discovery, concept development, proposal presentation, and a signed project agreement. The role includes managing opportunities provided by the company while also developing new relationships through referrals, connections with local design and construction professionals, and community networking. This position is well suited to someone with a landscape-design background who enjoys working directly with clients. We also welcome candidates with relevant experience in residential design/build, architecture, interior or exterior design, luxury home improvement, or another consultative project environment. The right person will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, understand how a space relates to the home, and guide clients toward a solution that supports how they want to live. What You'll Do Respond to company-provided inquiries and establish professional, trusted relationships with prospective clients. Develop additional opportunities through client referrals, professional relationships, and local networking. Lead discovery conversations to understand each homeowner's vision, priorities, property conditions, intended use, and decision-making process. Conduct consultations at our North Wales design center, virtually, and at residential properties throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Observe and document existing outdoor conditions, architectural relationships, access considerations, photographs, and preliminary dimensions needed for concept development. Translate client needs into cohesive outdoor-living concepts that balance appearance, comfort, functionality, and connection to the home. Help clients explore layouts, finishes, architectural outdoor solutions, integrated comfort features, and other project considerations. Collaborate with internal team members to develop clear concepts, estimates, presentations, and proposals. Present recommendations confidently, explain the reasoning behind each solution, answer questions, and make appropriate refinements. Maintain thoughtful and consistent follow-up, helping clients move from early interest to a confident decision and signed project agreement. Keep client communications, project details, site information, proposals, and next steps accurate and organized. Prepare a complete internal handoff once a project is approved, ensuring the production and installation teams understand the client's goals and agreed-upon project details. Remain available as a design resource following the handoff while allowing the appropriate internal teams to manage field execution. Accommodate occasional evening or weekend client appointments when planned in advance. What You Bring Relevant experience in landscape design, residential design/build, architecture, interior or exterior design, luxury home improvement, or consultative client services. A strong ability to listen, identify what matters most to a homeowner, and translate those priorities into a meaningful design direction. Visual and spatial awareness, including an understanding of proportion, layout, materials, architectural relationships, and outdoor functionality. Confidence presenting ideas, discussing project considerations, responding to questions, and guiding clients through important decisions. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail across multiple active client opportunities. A professional and approachable presence in clients' homes, at the design center, and when working with referral partners. Comfort collaborating with design, production, and installation team members. Experience with CAD, rendering platforms, or comparable design tools is preferred but not required. The ability to travel regularly to client properties throughout the surrounding Pennsylvania and New Jersey market. What Success Looks Like Clients feel heard, understood, and confident in the direction of their project. Concepts reflect both the property and the homeowner's lifestyle. Communication remains consistent, opportunities move forward thoughtfully, and approved projects reach the production team with clear, complete information. Just as importantly, the relationships you build create lasting trust, enthusiastic referrals, and new opportunities for Distinctive Outdoor Structures. Apply If you are excited by the idea of helping homeowners create more intentional and enjoyable outdoor environments, we would like to hear from you. Please submit your résumé through . You are also welcome to include an optional portfolio featuring relevant landscape plans, residential concepts, renderings, presentations, or completed client projects.
