About the Role Stone Fortress is looking for an Architectural Technician to join our Design & Construction Documentation team. This isn't a "just draft what you're told" position — you'll exercise real technical judgment, author scopes of work, build labor estimates, and help keep our rehab, rental turn, new construction, and greenfield development projects buildable, code-compliant, and on schedule. You'll work across Montour, Northumberland, and Luzerne County project sites, splitting your time between the drafting table and the field, verifying that what's on paper matches what's actually happening on-site. What You'll Do Technical Documentation & Buildability Produce working drawings, details, and schedules coordinated across structural, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades Review drawings for code compliance, zoning requirements, and construction detailing accuracy before release Catch buildability issues, coordination conflicts, and drawing errors before they hit the field — and propose fixes Maintain and improve standard details and templates based on recurring field issues and QC findings Scopes of Work Author complete, project-specific scopes of work from drawings and site visits Write scopes with enough specificity (materials, quantities, quality standards, exclusions) to prevent contractor disputes Sequence scopes to avoid downstream trade conflicts Labor Estimating Build labor estimates from drawings and scopes using established and self-developed production rate benchmarks Track estimate accuracy against actual project labor hours/cost and refine future estimates Propose improvements to estimating methods, templates, and production-rate data Material Lists Produce accurate, quantity-verified material lists tied directly to the drawing set Account for waste factors, standard package sizing, and phase-specific ordering needs Cross-check material lists against the SF Construction Inventory system and coordinate with Purchasing on discrepancies Continuous Improvement Run self-QC passes using Stone Fortress trade QC checklists before finalizing any drawing set Review closed-out projects for recurring issues and recommend standard/process updates Bring process, template, and standard improvement recommendations to leadership on an ongoing basis What You Bring Associate degree in Architectural Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience 3+ years producing construction documentation in a residential or light-commercial environment Working knowledge of IRC/IBC code requirements as applied to residential construction and rehab work Experience authoring scopes of work, labor estimates, or material takeoffs (or clear readiness to build this skill) Proficiency in CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent) Strong self-direction — you spot problems and drive them to resolution without needing constant oversight Ability to walk active construction sites, including partially completed structures, to verify drawing accuracy against field conditions Valid driver's license for travel between the office and project sites Work Environment Primarily an office/drafting role with regular site visits across our Montour, Northumberland, Lycoming, Columbia, and Luzerne county projects.
