Job Description
Position Overview A growing residential Design-Build firm is seeking an experienced Architect to join its team and play a key role in the design and development of high-quality residential renovation, addition, and custom home projects. This is a hands-on, highly collaborative position for an architect who enjoys taking projects from initial concept through construction. The Residential Architect will work closely with homeowners, designers, pre-construction, estimating, and construction teams to develop creative designs that balance aesthetics, functionality, budget, and constructability. The ideal candidate brings strong residential architectural experience along with a practical understanding of how projects are actually built . This is an opportunity to have meaningful influence throughout the entire Design-Build process rather than handing a project off once the drawings are completed. Key Responsibilities Lead architectural design for residential renovations, additions, and custom home projects. Develop projects from initial concepts and schematic design through construction. Translate client goals into creative, functional, and buildable residential designs. Prepare architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations, details, and construction documentation. Review existing conditions and conduct field measurements as needed. Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and local regulations. Collaborate closely with estimating and pre-construction teams to ensure designs align with project budgets. Coordinate architectural plans with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering consultants. Work closely with interior designers on space planning, materials, selections, and overall design continuity. Partner with Project Managers and construction teams to ensure a smooth transition from design into production. Remain involved during construction to answer design questions, address field conditions, and provide architectural solutions when needed. Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules, accuracy, and high design standards. Continuously identify opportunities to improve the company's architectural and Design-Build processes. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture. 7+ years of architectural experience, with strong experience in residential design. Experience with residential renovations, additions, and/or custom homes strongly preferred. Previous experience within a Design-Build, residential construction, or highly collaborative architectural environment is a plus. Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, building codes, and zoning requirements. Ability to read, develop, and communicate detailed architectural and construction drawings. Proficiency with architectural design software such as Revit, Chief Architect, or similar platforms . Strong understanding of how architectural decisions affect construction costs, schedules, and constructability. Experience working directly with homeowners and presenting design concepts. Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with designers, estimators, Project Managers, field personnel, subcontractors, and clients. Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will combine architectural creativity with practical construction knowledge . This person should enjoy working in an environment where architecture, design, estimating, and construction operate as one team. Rather than focusing solely on producing drawings, the Residential Architect will take ownership of the architectural process, develop strong client relationships, collaborate with the construction team, and remain engaged as designs become completed homes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Residential Architect who wants greater involvement in the complete project lifecycle and the ability to see their designs move from concept through construction.
