Job Description
Architect Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced architect to lead projects from early zoning and code review through design, documentation, permitting, and construction support within a collaborative design-build environment. You will work closely with clients, consultants, and construction teams to develop high-quality architectural solutions for dental offices and small to mid-sized commercial projects while ensuring compliance with codes, schedules, and budgets. Responsibilities Complete initial zoning and code checks to determine project feasibility and compliance with applicable regulations. Attend meetings with owners and clients to understand project requirements, present concepts, and provide professional guidance. Develop preliminary sketches and design concepts to support pre-design and budgeting efforts. Document modifications from preliminary sketches and prepare comparative documentation against project estimates. Create and manage schedules for drawings and allocate associated hours for preliminary design and subsequent phases. Obtain and coordinate consultant quotes for civil engineering, geotechnical borings, and landscape design services. Represent the company professionally at municipal and public meetings, including planning, zoning, and permitting sessions. Collaborate closely with project managers and superintendents during the construction phase to support design intent and address field conditions. Prepare, submit, and secure building permits, ensuring all documentation meets jurisdictional requirements. Review and approve all architectural shop drawings to confirm compliance with design intent, specifications, and codes. Coordinate design and construction documentation using Revit, CAD, and SketchUp to produce accurate and constructible drawings. Support a design-build project delivery approach by working collaboratively with the construction team and taking shared responsibility for project outcomes. Essential Skills At least five years of experience working as an architect. Bachelor's degree in architecture or a closely related field. Architectural license preferred. Strong proficiency with Revit for architectural design and construction documentation. Proficiency with CAD software for drafting and detailing. Proficiency with SketchUp for conceptual and design visualization. Solid experience in architectural design, drafting, and preparation of construction documents. Strong knowledge of international building codes and related code series. Thorough understanding of planning and zoning ordinances and how they impact project design and approvals. Experience with the submittal process for construction documents, including permitting and approvals. Ability to work effectively with clients and communicate design ideas clearly. Ability to collaborate closely with construction teams in a design-build environment. Strong organizational skills to manage drawing schedules, hours, and consultant coordination. Ability to represent the company professionally in municipal and public meetings. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience managing architectural projects or serving as a project manager is a plus. Experience with dental offices or small to mid-sized commercial projects is highly desirable. Experience working in a design-build setting and collaborating directly with construction teams. Ability to coordinate with civil, geotechnical, and landscape consultants. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively across design and construction teams. Attention to detail in reviewing shop drawings and ensuring adherence to design intent and codes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
