Job Description
Position Overview Kuhlman Incorporated is seeking a 3D Revit and AutoCAD Draftsman to support the design and construction of industrial refrigeration systems. This position will work closely with our engineers, project managers, field personnel, equipment manufacturers, and customers to develop accurate, coordinated, and construction-ready refrigeration drawings. The ideal candidate has strong Revit and AutoCAD experience, understands mechanical piping and equipment layouts, and can translate engineering concepts and field information into clear, practical drawings. The position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for industrial refrigeration systems. Previous industrial refrigeration experience is preferred, but candidates with relevant mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or process piping experience are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed 3D Revit models for industrial refrigeration systems Prepare equipment layouts, piping plans, sections, elevations, details, and isometric drawings Model refrigeration piping, valves, vessels, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and related mechanical equipment Develop and maintain refrigeration P&IDs using AutoCAD Update P&IDs based on engineering markups, equipment selections, field verification, and system modifications Accurately represent piping, valves, controls, instruments, equipment connections, and system flow paths Coordinate refrigeration systems with structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and process systems Identify potential conflicts and assist with clash detection and constructability reviews Create and maintain drawing sets from conceptual design through construction Update models and drawings based on engineering markups, field conditions, equipment submittals, and project changes Develop fabrication and installation details for use by field personnel Maintain Kuhlman's Revit families, AutoCAD blocks, drawing standards, templates, and detail libraries Assist with field verification and preparation of accurate record drawings Communicate with engineers, project managers, foremen, and subcontractors throughout the design and construction process Support multiple projects while maintaining drawing accuracy and project schedules Qualifications Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD Experience preparing P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment layouts, or process piping drawings Experience producing mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, process piping, or industrial construction drawings Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, field sketches, and P&IDs Strong understanding of 3D coordination and construction documentation Familiarity with Navisworks and clash detection is preferred Experience with industrial refrigeration, ammonia refrigeration, CO₂ refrigeration, chilled water, or glycol systems is a plus Knowledge of mechanical piping practices, valves, instrumentation, equipment connections, and pipe supports is a plus Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage priorities and coordinate multiple active projects Effective written and verbal communication skills Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in drafting, design technology, mechanical design, or a related field is preferred What We Offer Competitive compensation based on experience Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Opportunities for professional development and advancement Exposure to complex industrial refrigeration projects throughout the United States A collaborative environment with direct access to experienced engineers, project managers, and field personnel The opportunity to see projects progress from initial concept through installation and operation
