Job Description

We are looking for a Residential Architectural Designer with 3+ years of experience to join our team and help design new homes, additions, and remodeling projects. Wesenberg Homes is an Architect-Led Design-Build firm looking for an individual that could make an immediate impact on the entire design and construction management process within a team environment that includes an architect, construction project manager, estimator, and interior designer. This
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
position, under the direction of a principal architect, is primarily responsible for producing quality construction documents. This position focuses on efficient residential design under the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) . What You'll Do Draft and develop residential floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details. Work on new homes, additions, and remodeling projects. Incorporate design changes, redlines, field measurements, and client requests. Prepare construction details and documentation for permitting and construction. Assist with residential structural member sizing, including headers and beams. Prepare wall/lateral bracing plans using Wisconsin's prescriptive requirements. Complete REScheck energy-code documentation. Prepare residential building permit applications and supporting documents. Visit existing homes for additions and remodels to measure, photograph, and document existing conditions. Coordinate with designers, project managers, subcontractors, and construction personnel. What We're Looking For 3+ years of relevant experience. Experience with Revit, SoftPlan, AutoCAD, or similar software. Familiarity with residential construction methods and building materials. Ability to read and understand construction drawings. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team. Familiarity with the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code is helpful but not required. A Great Opportunity to Learn You don't need to have experience with every part of residential design to be successful in this position. We can train the right person on our drafting standards, Wisconsin code requirements, REScheck, structural sizing, lateral bracing, permitting, and our specific construction methods. Experience with Revit/BIM is particularly valuable, and we are interested in expanding our use of BIM for 3D visualization, coordination, and material estimating. A construction background is helpful, but hands-on construction experience is not required. Understanding how a house goes together and an interest in learning the "why" behind construction details will be valuable. About the Position This is a residential-focused design and drafting position. Our projects are primarily single-family homes, additions, and remodeling projects governed by the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code. If you enjoy residential design, drafting, problem-solving, and seeing your drawings become actual homes, we'd like to hear from you.
