Job Description

Job Title:
Engineering Test Technician Job Description This role suits an experienced engineering test technician who enjoys solving complex problems, works effectively in a team, and remains calm and focused under pressure. You will perform functional testing on printed circuit board assemblies and final products, support production test requirements and engineering prototypes, and ensure that electronic assemblies meet design and quality expectations. You will use a wide range of electronic test equipment, interpret engineering documentation, and perform hands-on rework and troubleshooting at the component level. Responsibilities Perform functional tests on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) and final products to support production test requirements and engineering prototyping. Troubleshoot PCBAs and systematic issues, including identifying root causes in analog and digital electrical circuits at the component level. Use oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, multimeters, and other test equipment to perform precise measurements and validate performance. Read and interpret electrical schematics, subsystem diagrams, and engineering drawings to understand circuit operation and test requirements. Identify build errors on PCBs, components, harnesses, and electro-mechanical assemblies, including workmanship issues, and communicate findings clearly. Execute engineering test procedures accurately and provide feedback to improve procedures, protocols, and process requirements. Perform soldering and rework of SMT and through-hole components in accordance with engineering specifications and
IPC J-STD
standards. Support design and test activities for high-end, low-volume electrical device products by providing test data, observations, and recommendations. Document test results, issues, and corrective actions in a clear and organized manner, and escalate critical issues promptly. Collaborate closely with engineering, electronics, and production teams to resolve technical problems and ensure test coverage and product quality. Assist with wiring, assembly, and integration of electro-mechanical systems as needed to support test and build activities. Essential Skills Proven experience as an engineering technician performing functional tests on PCBAs and final test products. Strong troubleshooting skills for PCBAs and systematic problems, including component-level debugging of analog and digital circuits. Advanced proficiency using oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, multimeters, and related electronic test equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, subsystem diagrams, and engineering drawings. Demonstrated ability to identify build errors on PCBs, components, harnesses, and workmanship issues. Experience executing engineering test procedures and following detailed technical instructions. Solid hands-on experience in soldering and reworking SMT and through-hole components to meet engineering specifications and
IPC J-STD
standards. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and escalate issues to relevant stakeholders. Ability to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines. Work experience in engineering, electronics, electrical systems, troubleshooting, wiring, PCB, mechanical, soldering, assembly, and electro-mechanical work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Mechanical knowledge and familiarity with electro-mechanical systems. CAD experience, including exposure to tools such as AutoCAD or similar design software. Proficiency in software used for the design and layout of electronic circuitry. Experience contributing to designs for high-end, low-volume electrical device products. Experience writing procedures, test protocols, and process requirements. Attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and documentation. Ability to collaborate across disciplines, including electronics, mechanical, and production teams. Why Work Here? You will join a team that values technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The environment encourages hands-on problem solving, knowledge sharing, and professional growth, particularly in advanced electronics and test engineering. You will work on sophisticated, high-end products, gaining exposure to modern tools and practices while contributing directly to product quality and reliability. Work Environment The role is based in a lab and production test environment focused on electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies. You will work with oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers, multimeters, and other test equipment, as well as soldering stations and tools for SMT and through-hole rework. The work involves close interaction with engineering and production teams and may require balancing multiple priorities and tight deadlines. You can expect a setting where safety, organization, and adherence to engineering standards such as
IPC J-STD
are essential, and where practical, hands-on work with PCBAs, wiring, and assemblies is part of the daily routine. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orange, CA.
