Simi Valley encompasses an area of 41.7 square miles and is located in the southeast portion of Ventura County. Description

POSITION DETAILS
Salary range: $40.55 - $51.77 + Excellent Benefits
Salary Increases:
3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/13/26
3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/12/27
Salary placement is generally at the beginning of the range.
Advanced placement may be considered based on related education and experience.
NOTE:
The City recently completed a compensation study comparing its salary ranges with those of other local agencies. As a result, 87% of salary ranges will be adjusted upward at various intervals. As ranges are adjusted, job postings will be updated to reflect these changes.
Status:
Regular, Full-Time position
Work schedule: 4/10 (four 10‑hour days)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level
course work in electronics or a related field.
Experience:
Four years experience performing duties equivalent to Instrumentation Technician, including design, repair, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment such as instrumentation systems, transformers, switches, control panels, electronic components of telemetry systems and components utilized in the water and wastewater industry.
License or Certificate:
When assigned to Waterworks - Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of employment, a State Water Resources Control Board, Grade 1 Distribution certificate.

Strong technical expertise in instrumentation, electrical systems, and SCADA operations
Solid leadership skills with the ability to train, mentor, and guide staff
Ability to diagnose complex system issues quickly and accurately
Strong communication skills with operators, vendors, engineers, and coworkers
Commitment to safety when working with high‑voltage equipment, confined spaces, and hazardous environments
Ability to learn new technology and support evolving instrumentation and control systems
Ability to respond to after‑hours call‑outs and emergencies
Strong documentation and record‑keeping skills to support maintenance, compliance, and reporting needs
