Job Description

Under general supervision the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician performs skilled, technical work on the electrical systems, control systems, telemetry systems and Instrumentation of the City's facilities equipment. The primary focus of this position will be on the Water Treatment Plant, Booster Stations, Raw Water Wells and Lift Stations. Assistance will be provided to other divisions and departments as well. Electrical work performed will include design, installation, programming, testing, calibration and electrical corrective and preventive maintenance on various types of equipment assets. Work involved will include low voltage to high voltage, milli-amperage to high amperage, altering current and direct current.
Days/Hours :
Monday - Friday, 7AM - 3:30PM Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and installations of Electrical systems, which include Electrical locates, electrical panels, service racks, disconnect surge protection devices, transformers, fuses, short circuits, transfer switches, generators, pumps and motors, lighting, piping, grounding and bonding, circuitry, outlets, etc… Required to maintain, service, calibrate, repair program, and install the various control systems which include frequency drives, human machine interfaces, motor controllers and starters, programmable logic controllers, actuators, computer boards and chips, digital and analog input and output cards, control panels (timers, alternators, relays, switches, phase monitors, rectifiers, diodes, current transformers, etc.) Required to maintain service calibrate, repair, program, and install telemetry systems which include radios, antennas, ethernet, fiber coaxial, switches, communication cards, servers, software, surge cards, arresters, etc… Required to maintain service, calibrate, repair, program, and install instrumentation equipment, which includes pressure gauges, level transmitters, chlorine analyzers, flow meters, turbidity meters, ammonia sensors, temperature gauges, etc.. Use the telemetry systems (SCADA) to monitor all the operations of the Utilities equipment and assets. Learn the system well enough to be able to detect problems even If no alarms are active. This is achieved by running daily reports and analyzing the information. Address all alarms as they come into the system. Make proper scaling adjustments to maintain smooth operation and keep accurate readings and recordings. Keep accurate records and data for maintenance scheduling, costs, materials, ordering, and assist operators with their duties. Generate various reports for engineering, process improvement, and asset analysis. Performs various maintenance duties including sandblasting, pressure washing, painting door and gate repairs, air conditioning, etc… Assist operators, mechanics, and other divisions and departments. Assist in the development and integration of utilities policies and procedures for operational enhancement. Provide 24-hour on-call emergency availability. Receives the initial call, logs in to SCADA, and makes good judgment calls on how to proceed with issues. Troubleshoot a variety of utilities, electrical equipment/system problems to identify the problem and extent of the maintenance/repair problem and recommend preventive measures. Performs a variety of routine electrical maintenance and repairs to maintain facilities/equipment in operating condition and to ensure electrical service is not interrupted. Performs a schedule of corrective, preventative, and emergency repairs on the electrical, SCADA, and control systems, for the Water Treatment Plant, Water Booster Stations, lift stations, and water wells. High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of work experience or equivalent combination. Licensed Master Industrial Electrician, preferred. Licensed journeyman electrician, preferred. Electrical contractors' license, preferred. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
