Overview:
Fiber Splicer is responsible for the proper preparation, installation of new cable lines, both underground and on utility poles. The successful Fiber Splicer performs maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repair, locate problem areas and perform other repairs as needed. Will also install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for any issues preventing the service from operating normally. Candidate must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record. Candidate must be able to work overtime, nights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
Read understand, interpret, input, and analyze data with a high degree of accuracy and completeness Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR,Power Meters, fusion splicing equipment, and understand the functioning thereof Completion of low level and high-level labor intensive tasks as well as operation of assigned construction equipment Completion of daily production reports to document work performed Use of hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of an assigned project Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations Lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment Work safely, with or without supervision Excellent manual dexterity Work comfortably in cramped and/or enclosed spaces for extended periods Work aloft, either from a ladder, aerial lift device, or by gaffing Additional Duties as assigned Must have skills:
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or recognized equivalent is required 2-5 years field experience in fiber splicing & restoration Fiber optic splicing experience is a must Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication and including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks Strong PC skills are required. Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDR's, optical power meters and other fiber testing equipment as required Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are necessary Ability to work in confined spaces Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and dig trenches.
- Proficient in the use of telecom construction equipment. (Aerial Lifts, Lashers, Meters, etc.)
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, background, and motor vehicle record check.
