Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced OSP Fiber Splicer to support fiber construction, deployment, and maintenance projects in FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and FTTX environments . This position will perform production fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation throughout metro and suburban markets . The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in active OSP environments and has hands-on experience with fiber distribution networks, splice closures, cabinets, terminals, handholes, pedestals, and other outside plant infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Perform OSP fiber optic splicing for FTTH, FTTX, and fiber distribution projects. Perform fusion splicing of single-mode fiber , including loose-tube and ribbon fiber when required. Complete new-build, expansion, maintenance, repair, and restoration splicing.

Splice fiber within:

Handholes and vaults Pedestals Cabinets and FDHs Splice cases/closures Aerial and underground fiber networks Fiber terminals and distribution points Read and interpret splice matrices, fiber assignments, construction prints, schematics, and network maps . Identify fibers by buffer tube, ribbon, strand, and color code. Prepare fiber cables, cases, trays, and closures according to customer and manufacturer specifications. Perform OTDR testing, power-meter testing, light-level testing, and troubleshooting as required. Identify and troubleshoot high-loss events, breaks, damaged fibers, bad splices, and other network issues. Perform end-to-end testing and verify acceptable optical loss following splicing activities. Properly document splice locations, fiber assignments, test results, redlines, and completed work. Maintain accurate production and closeout documentation. Work closely with OSP construction crews, project managers, supervisors, engineers, and customer representatives. Support cutovers, maintenance windows, emergency restoration, and outage response when required. Maintain and properly operate fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber-testing equipment. Follow company, customer, OSHA, traffic-control, and jobsite safety requirements. Maintain clean and organized splice trailers, vehicles, tools, and work areas. Required Qualifications 1+ years of hands-on fiber optic splicing experience preferred. Experience working within FTTH, FTTP, FTTX, or similar OSP fiber networks . Strong understanding of fiber color codes, buffer tubes, fiber counts, splice trays, and cable preparation. Hands-on experience with fusion splicing equipment . Ability to read and follow splice matrices, fiber assignments, prints, and construction documentation. Experience working with OSP infrastructure including handholes, vaults, pedestals, cabinets, FDHs, terminals, and splice closures . Familiarity with OTDRs, optical power meters, VFLs, and other fiber-testing equipment . Ability to troubleshoot fiber faults and determine the source of optical loss or network issues. Comfortable working in metro, suburban, and residential environments where existing utilities, traffic, pedestrians, and customer properties require additional awareness. Ability to work independently while maintaining production, quality, and documentation standards. Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned market. Preferred Qualifications Experience with both loose-tube and ribbon fiber . Experience with high-count fiber cables such as 48, 96, 144, 288-count or higher . Experience with production splicing for large-scale residential fiber builds. Experience performing mid-span/ring-cut fiber preparation and splicing . Experience with live-network cutovers and maintenance/restoration work. Familiarity with major fiber closure, cabinet, terminal, and connectivity manufacturers. FOA/CFOT or other fiber-optic certifications are a plus but not required when supported by equivalent hands-on experience. Work Environment This is a field-based position supporting fiber projects throughout metro and suburban environments . Work may be performed from splice trailers, vans, tents, handholes, vaults, cabinets, pedestals, aerial locations, and other OSP facilities. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and may occasionally be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, maintenance windows, or emergency restoration assignments depending on project requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work around handholes and other OSP infrastructure. Ability to perform detailed fiber preparation and splicing for extended periods. Ability to safely work around active construction sites, roadways, traffic-control zones, and existing utilities.
