Job Description
Robotics and Automation Specialist (Relocation Offered)Position OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on Robotics and Automation Specialist to design, implement, and maintain advanced automation solutions for high-volume manufacturing. The role focuses on integrating industrial robots, PLCs, and control systems to improve throughput, quality, and safety. You will lead automation projects from concept through commissioning, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate with engineering, operations, and vendor partners. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and program PLC-based control systems and develop
Specify, program, and commission industrial robots and robot cells (pick-and-place, welding, material handling, assembly) to meet production objectives.
Integrate sensors, drives, actuators, and safety systems into cohesive automation solutions and ensure compliance with machine safety standards.
Perform system integration, FAT/SAT testing, and on-site commissioning; validate performance and implement corrective actions.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, control, and robotic issues on the production floor to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.
Develop and maintain electrical and control schematics, PLC and robot source code, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
Work with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain) to define requirements, optimize processes, and implement continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/Six Sigma practices beneficial).Manage relationships with automation vendors and integrators; evaluate new technologies and recommend cost-effective solutions.
Train operations and maintenance personnel on safe operation, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of automated equipment.
Lead small project teams, manage project schedules and budgets, and ensure on-time delivery of automation projects.
Qualifications5+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning automation systems in a manufacturing environment (robotics and PLC-focused).Strong PLC programming skills (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi or equivalent) and familiarity with Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block programming.
Hands-on experience with industrial robots and robot programming (ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa or similar) and robot cell integration.
Practical understanding of industrial networks and protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, OPC UA) and familiarity with motor drives, I/O modules, and field devices.
Proven ability to read and produce electrical schematics, control documentation, and wiring diagrams.
Experience with
Strong troubleshooting skills, with experience performing FAT/SAT, commissioning, and post-commissioning support.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills; ability to train and mentor technicians and operators.
Willingness to relocate (relocation assistance provided) and travel to customer sites as required; flexibility to work occasional off-hours for commissioning and emergency support.
