Job Description This role focuses on creating, reviewing, and supporting detailed engineering drawing packages for electrical, mechanical, transmission, and related projects. The Design and Drafting Specialist uses established engineering practices, technical standards, and CAD software to ensure drawings meet project specifications, industry quality standards, and customer requirements while supporting project coordination and manufacturing operations. Responsibilities + Develop and prepare detailed engineering drawing packages using established engineering practices, technical standards, and drafting software. + Review and verify engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and industry quality standards. + Provide technical guidance and support for engineering activities, project coordination, and manufacturing operations. + Assist with project-related tasks to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements. + Collaborate effectively with engineering personnel, technical specialists, and support teams to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results. + Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, quality, and overall efficiency. + Maintain organized engineering documentation and drawing records in alignment with project management and engineering documentation processes. + Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge, communicating clearly, and supporting cross-functional initiatives. Essential Skills + High school diploma or equivalent. + Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets and related software. + Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation. + Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. + Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and demonstrate self-motivation. + Effective problem-solving and organizational skills. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to learn new systems, technologies, and processes while contributing in a collaborative team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Associate degree, technical certification, or other post-secondary education in engineering, drafting, design technology, or a related field. + Previous experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, construction, utility, or other project-based environments. + Familiarity with project management principles. + Understanding of engineering documentation processes. + Interest in electrical, mechanical, or transmission-related design and drafting. Work Environment The role is primarily based at a computer workstation, requiring regular use of a keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment. The position involves frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and performing routine movements throughout the workday. The specialist may occasionally need to lift, carry, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. At times, work may take place in typical manufacturing and production environments, where exposure to associated physical hazards and adherence to safety requirements is expected. The individual must comply with all workplace safety policies and procedures while working in both office and production settings. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $70000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. 401k, health, dental, vision Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Des Moines,IA.
