Job Description

Purpose of Position:
The Automation Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated equipment and systems used in the manufacturing plant. This role ensures that automation, robotics, and control systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably to meet production goals. Essential Job Functions Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment, robotics, conveyors, sensors, vision systems, and PLC-controlled machinery Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control issues with automated systems to minimize downtime Assist with installation, setup, and programming of automation equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and control panels Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending automation upgrades, modifications, and process improvements Conduct root cause analysis on recurring automation issues and implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps, maintenance activities, and equipment configurations Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment performance Ensure compliance with safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies when working on automated systems Provide training and support to operators and maintenance personnel on basic troubleshooting and equipment care Experience and Knowledge Associate's degree or technical certification in Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience Minimum 2-4 years of experience working with automation equipment in a manufacturing environment Hands-on experience with robotics, PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), sensors, HMIs, and pneumatic systems Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Knowledge of safety standards, including OSHA, lockout/tagout, and machine guarding Experience with troubleshooting automation and robotic systems in a production environment Skills Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Effective communication and documentation skills Adaptability to shifting production priorities Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures Requires standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs May require overtime, weekends, or off-shift work to support production needs
