Job Description

Ninth Avenue Foods is seeking an experienced PLC Controls Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Columbus, Indiana manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on technical role for an experienced controls professional who can independently troubleshoot complex electrical, controls, and automation issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The PLC Controls Technician will play a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, improving control systems, and sharing technical knowledge with the broader Maintenance team. What You'll Do Troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain PLC and plant automation systems Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on PLC-controlled equipment Diagnose complex electrical, electronic, mechanical, and control system failures using root cause analysis Maintain and troubleshoot plant electrical, controls, and automation systems Perform PLC system upgrades and modifications as needed Install, modify, troubleshoot, and validate electrical control components Diagnose and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo motors, controllers, safety modules, and I/O cards Support equipment installations, repairs, line changeovers, and other plant maintenance activities Develop and document standard operating procedures and one-point lessons Transfer technical knowledge to the Maintenance team and mentor/train Maintenance Technicians Work independently to identify and resolve equipment and controls issues Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and plant safety requirements What We're Looking For 10+ years of electrical maintenance experience 10+ years of experience in a PLC controls technical role Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex industrial control systems Strong knowledge of PLCs, industrial electrical systems, controls, and automation Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and instrumentation diagrams Strong diagnostic and root cause analysis skills Working knowledge of VFDs, servo systems, safety controls, and industrial I/O Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Associate's degree in a manufacturing-related or technical field preferred, but not required Basic algebra proficiency Schedule & Work Environment This position works in an active manufacturing environment and requires regular standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Candidates must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The role requires flexibility to support plant operations and may include off-shift hours, weekends, and on-call assignments as needed. Why Ninth Avenue Foods?
