As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will help connect customers to reliable high-speed internet and resolve problems affecting their fiber connections. You will install and test customer equipment, inspect fiber connections, troubleshoot service issues, and document completed work. You will work closely with technical support and scheduling staff to deliver safe installations, accurate diagnostics, and clear communication with customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, activate, and troubleshoot fiber internet connections at customer premises. Install and configure optical network terminals (ONTs) and associated customer equipment. Inspect and clean fiber connectors using approved procedures and tools. Measure optical signal levels and identify connection faults using appropriate test equipment. Diagnose service interruptions, poor performance, and equipment problems. Check wired connectivity and help customers understand basic router and Wi-Fi operation. Repair or replace defective components within the scope of your training and authorization. Perform fiber termination or fusion splicing where required, trained, and authorized. Coordinate with network staff when an issue extends beyond the customer's connection. Record installation details, equipment identifiers, test results, and corrective actions. Keep tools, test equipment, and assigned materials organized and in serviceable condition. Follow fiber-handling, laser, electrical, ladder, and other applicable safety procedures. Explain completed work to customers and confirm that service is functioning before closing the job.
Requirements:
Previous experience in fiber installation, telecommunications field service, or a closely related technical role. Understanding of fiber-optic connections, optical signal loss, and safe cable-handling practices. Familiarity with ONTs, routers, Ethernet connections, and basic IP networking. Experience using an optical power meter and other relevant diagnostic tools. Ability to follow wiring diagrams, installation instructions, and work orders. Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail. Clear communication and a professional approach when working in customers' homes or businesses. A valid driver's license and ability to travel between assigned service locations. Ability to perform essential field duties safely, with or without reasonable accommodation; physical requirements will be confirmed.
Pay:
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour
