A Calibration Technician is responsible for the routine inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of instruments and manufacturing equipment. The purpose of the calibration technician role is to ensure the accuracy of the measurements taken using this equipment.
Rockville, MD Position Summary We are seeking experienced Metrology professionals to support calibration and instrumentation activities within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Depending on experience, qualified candidates may be considered for either an individual contributor or leadership-level position. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and compliance of manufacturing, laboratory, utility, and facility instrumentation through calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Candidates with leadership experience may also oversee calibration programs, client communications, resource planning, KPI management, and operational performance. Key Responsibilities Perform calibration, verification, adjustment, and preventive maintenance of manufacturing, laboratory, utility, and facility instruments. Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and support equipment reliability. Complete calibration records, maintenance documentation, and regulatory documentation accurately. Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, company procedures, and safety requirements. Support deviations, investigations, CAPAs, audits, and regulatory inspections. Maintain calibration schedules, asset inventories, and instrument lifecycle records. Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, P&IDs, and calibration procedures. Coordinate calibration activities with manufacturing and engineering teams to minimize downtime. Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, compliance, and equipment performance. Additional Responsibilities (Leadership Candidates) Lead site metrology and calibration operations. Manage staffing, scheduling, workload planning, and resource allocation. Monitor KPIs, compliance metrics, and service performance. Lead client meetings and operational reviews. Develop and improve calibration programs and maintenance strategies. Mentor and train calibration personnel. Support strategic planning and operational excellence initiatives. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience). Experience performing calibration, instrumentation, or metrology activities in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environments. Working knowledge of GMP regulations and documentation practices. Experience calibrating manufacturing, laboratory, process, utility, or facility instrumentation. Ability to read engineering drawings, technical manuals, and calibration procedures. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting FDA-regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing. Experience with CMMS or calibration management software. Knowledge of deviations, CAPA, change control, and audit support. Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred for senior-level candidates.
