Lead Automation Technician

Job Description

Work Site:
Coopersville, MI Employment Status:
Contract-to-Hire, with the possibility of transitioning to a direct hire role for the ideal applicant.
Schedule Details:
This is a 3rd shift position operating on a 2-2-3 rotation from 6:00pm to 6:00am. You will begin with a 3 to 6-month training period on 1st shift.
Shift Premium:
An additional $1.00/hr.
Pay Rate:
$37 to $39 per hour.
Role Summary:
We are looking for a Lead Automation Technician to act as the key technical expert for our 3rd shift, ensuring our electronics and lightbar manufacturing lines run smoothly. In this hands-on leadership position, you will be responsible for resolving intricate equipment problems, maintaining automation systems, and guiding other technicians. You will act as the final point of technical resolution before a problem requires engineering intervention.
Core Responsibilities:
Resolve malfunctions in production machinery and automated systems to help maximize overall equipment uptime. Conduct thorough root cause investigations to pinpoint and fix issues related to sensors, controls, and manufacturing processes. Provide maintenance and diagnostic support for automated production hardware and Fanuc robotic units. Use HMIs, PLCs, and various control systems to identify faults and return equipment to a functional state. Analyze and utilize technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics. Work in tandem with the Engineering department to assist with complex repairs and contribute to ongoing process enhancements. Offer mentorship and technical instruction to other Automation Technicians working on your shift. Maintain clear records of maintenance tasks, equipment breakdowns, and the steps taken to resolve them. Assist in the execution of equipment upgrades, new installations, and various continuous improvement projects. Deliver comprehensive technical assistance across both production lines whenever necessary.
Required Qualifications:
At least 5 years of professional experience in the maintenance and repair of automated production machinery. Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical and electrical diagnostics, with a history of resolving equipment failures autonomously. Proven background working with PLC-based systems, with HMI knowledge considered a plus. Familiarity with Fanuc robotics is preferred, though we are open to training candidates who possess strong automation troubleshooting abilities. Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and electrical schematics. Demonstrated success in performing root cause analysis to help ensure long-term equipment reliability. Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration with engineers, supervisors, and fellow production staff. A proactive, positive mindset and the ability to confidently lead technical operations during your shift.
