Northern Staffing Services of Petoskey, Michigan is seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Industrial Maintenance Technician for a well-established local chocolate manufacturer in Petoskey, MI. What You'll Do In this hands-on role, you'll maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve the electrical controls and equipment that support production and facility operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment Diagnose, troubleshoot, and support PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and instrumentation Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and wiring schematics Install, calibrate, align, and maintain motors, sensors, conveyors, and automated production equipment Perform preventive and corrective maintenance using OEM documentation and maintenance schedules Assist with programming and integration of control systems Complete equipment upgrades, modifications, and improvements and properly document changes Troubleshoot automated packaging, conveying, and processing equipment Work alongside engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime Document maintenance and repair activities within the CMMS when applicable Provide technical support and training to equipment operators and maintenance team members Assist with facility maintenance, complete equipment and production-line tear-downs, reassembly, and sanitation as needed Maintain a safe work environment while following company, MIOSHA, NEC, and
NFPA 70E
standards What We're Looking For The ideal candidate brings a combination of electrical controls knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
Qualifications include:
3-5 years of experience in electrical controls, industrial automation, or industrial maintenance within a manufacturing environment preferred Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC/HMI platforms Experience with VFDs, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, and automated equipment Mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting abilities Ability to read prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and OEM documentation Understanding of
NFPA 70E, NEC
codes, and MIOSHA regulations Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Good communication and documentation skills Dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team Food manufacturing experience is a plus, but not required.
