Job Description

Job Title:
Test Technician Job Description Join a dynamic test laboratory as an entry-level Test Technician supporting hydraulic durability testing on a wide range of primarily automotive components. In this role, you perform hands-on mechanical and electrical tasks, assist engineers with test setups and teardowns, and help ensure quality and safety testing is completed accurately and on time. You work in a technical lab environment, using computer tools and test equipment to monitor performance, document results, and maintain an organized workspace. Responsibilities Assist engineers with test setups and teardowns for hydraulic durability tests on a wide range of samples, including seats, radiators, instrument panels, front-end modules, exhaust systems, and other primarily automotive components. Set up test fixtures and equipment according to test procedures and engineer instructions, ensuring all mechanical and hydraulic connections are secure and properly configured. Monitor and check ongoing tests periodically to identify any issues or abnormalities and promptly report findings to engineers or supervisors. Perform routine measurements during tests, such as measuring seat height loss at defined intervals and checking for structural damage or changes in test samples. Maintain proper fluid levels in radiators and other test systems as required, ensuring hydraulic and cooling systems operate within specified parameters. Download and manage digital photos and test data, using Microsoft Windows and related software to store, organize, and share information accurately. Use Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, to record measurements, track test progress, and help document test results. Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment by properly storing customer parts, organizing tools, and keeping work areas free of clutter. Handle customer parts with care, ensuring they are labeled, stored, and managed in an organized fashion to prevent damage or mix-ups. Follow established test procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards while working with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Demonstrate strong personal responsibility by reporting to work consistently, being dependable and trustworthy, and meeting attendance expectations. Maintain a positive attitude and professional composure, working collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and other team members. Show high self-motivation by accepting challenging assignments, understanding the importance of completing them accurately, and going above and beyond basic requirements when needed. Use mechanical aptitude to perform basic maintenance-related tasks, such as changing oil on vehicles or similar mechanical service activities. Communicate effectively with team members and, when needed, assist with basic customer communication related to test activities. Support general lab operations and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in testing processes and lab organization. Essential Skills Entry-level experience with a strong interest in mechanical and electrical technician work. Computer literacy, including confident navigation of Microsoft Windows and basic file management. Ability to download, organize, and manage digital photos and test-related data. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel for data entry and documentation. Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing oil on a vehicle. Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical systems relevant to test setups and durability testing. Strong sense of responsibility, with consistent attendance, dependability, and trustworthiness. Positive attitude and ability to maintain professional composure in a busy lab environment. Ability to work well with others and be easy to collaborate with in a team setting. High level of self-motivation, with willingness to accept challenging assignments and carry them through to completion. Attention to detail when monitoring tests, taking measurements, and documenting results. Capability to maintain an organized workspace and properly store customer parts and tools. Possession of a basic tool box suitable for mechanical and technician tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with welding in a lab or workshop setting. Ability to communicate and assist customers professionally when needed. Understanding of hydraulic pumps and hydraulic systems used in durability testing. Understanding of hydraulic cylinders and actuators and their operation. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, for data tracking and reporting. Experience with soldering for basic electrical or electronic connections. Experience with painting components or fixtures when required. Prior exposure to automotive components such as seats, radiators, instrument panels, front-end modules, and exhaust systems. Familiarity with durability testing concepts and environmental test methods is beneficial. Why Work Here? Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes strong insurance coverage, profit sharing, retirement savings options such as a 401(k), and generous holiday, vacation, and paid time off. Work in a culture that values reputation, customer focus, and quality, where employees are encouraged to take ownership, grow their skills, and contribute meaningfully to the success of the organization. Work Environment Work in a dedicated testing facility focused on durability and performance evaluation of various components, primarily for the automotive industry. The lab uses environmental chambers and other specialized testing methods to simulate real-world conditions and stresses on parts. You spend much of your time in a hands-on lab setting, working with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment, test fixtures, and measurement tools. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with an expectation that tools are stored properly and customer components are handled carefully.
