This is a part-time position with a full-time potential. As a Rental, Service & Repair Technician, you will perform diagnostic evaluation, OEM-compliant repair, and NIST-traceable calibration of life safety equipment across Ritz Safety's rental fleet and customer-owned assets. You will also conduct SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) flow testing and functional checks using manufacturer-approved test equipment, interpret results against specification, and return assets to service in a safe, compliant state. The role requires independent work planning, sound judgment, disciplined documentation, and clear communication with internal teams and customers. Duties
▪ Service & Repair. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair portable and fixed gas detectors, fall protection components, and confined space equipment using OEM procedures and service manuals. Complete assigned repairs in a timely, cost-effective manner to current repair standards.
▪ Calibration & Readiness. Keep the rental fleet go-ready through preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and parts planning. Use docking stations and calibration gas to complete NIST-traceable calibrations and bump tests; conduct SCBA flow testing and functional checks with manufacturer-approved test equipment and interpret results against specification.
▪ Documentation & Systems. Open and close repair orders, record parts and labor, and note root cause and corrective action accurately. Complete documentation required for customer billing. Research parts via schematics, service bulletins, and OEM resources; keep common spares organized and counted.
▪ Customer Support. Explain findings and work performed in clear, plain language. Support respirator fit testing and basic customer training as needed. Represent Ritz Safety positively with customers, suppliers, and the community.
▪ Asset Care & Logistics. Maintain shop tools, test equipment, service vehicles, and breathing air trailers in clean, ready condition. Assist with shipping, receiving, and return inspection of rental equipment. Safeguard associated inventories and records.
▪ Teamwork & Independence. Plan the day, set priorities, and follow through with minimal supervision. Flag risks early and offer solutions. Attend professional development training to attain and maintain relevant certifications.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & SKILLS
▪ High School Diploma or GED required.
▪ Works independently with little to no supervision; strong self-starter with critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
▪ Mechanical and electrical aptitude, with comfort using a full range of tools (hand, power, torque, crimpers) and test gear (multimeter, pressure/vacuum, docking stations).
▪ Able to read schematics, service bulletins, and SOPs, and follow standards precisely.
▪ Solid computer skills — email, spreadsheets, and basic CMMS or repair-order systems.
▪ Clear, professional written and verbal communication; strong attention to detail.
▪ Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
▪ Valid driver's license and clean MVR; must pass a background check and drug screening.
▪
Physical:
regularly lift and carry 50+ lbs., bend and kneel, and climb ladders and staircase-type warehouse ladders.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
▪ Associate degree or technical trade school in Electronics, Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, or a similar discipline.
▪ Two (2) or more years of service technician experience.
▪ OEM training or certifications with RKI, MSA, Honeywell BW, or Dräger (or similar).
▪ Fall Protection Competent Person or equivalent training.
▪ Experience with confined space equipment, SCBA/escape units, airline systems, or fit testing (OSHA 1910.134).
▪ Familiarity with PID instruments, LEL/O₂/CO/H₂S sensors, span and bump philosophies, and calibration traceability.
▪ Lean / 5S habits and parts-room organization experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Shop and warehouse environment with periods of bench work and field service. Full-time, primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or after-hours support during peak periods. Light regional travel for customers on-sites or training.
