The Fiber Splicer/Technician is responsible for both splicing and maintaining fiber optics in both ISP and OSP environments. The primary work area is Greensboro but travel to other regions within North Carolina may be required.
Primary Responsibilities Fiber Splicing and Maintenance :
Prep fiber optic cable including mid-sheath/ring cut, tray, and splice various fiber types (loose tube, ribbon, plenum cables, etc.), ensuring all work meets company and customer specifications. Individual will also work with various brands and types of fiber enclosures new and existing.
Aerial and Underground Splicing :
Access and splice fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground environments using bucket trucks and ladders as needed.
Testing and Troubleshooting :
Use optical test equipment (e.g., OTDR, Fiber Identifier, OLTS Test Sets) to test new fibers and troubleshoot/repair issues with existing systems.
Safety and Compliance :
Must be able to work safely in existing fiber optic splice enclosures that contain live fibers. Experience Minimum of 3 years' experience of OSP/ISP splicing, testing and troubleshooting. Please only apply if you meet this experience requirement. Technical Skills Ability to read splicing matrixes and design drawings, as well as create splicing as-builts. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (SharePoint, Excel, Word, etc.) for documenting and retrieving splice information. Capability to operate an aerial lift (bucket truck). General Skills Highly organized, with strong attention to detail. Able to work independently and manage time efficiently. Ability to troubleshoot outages, identify causes, and complete or recommend appropriate repairs or construction needs. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality and safety. Job Conditions Work primarily within the Greensboro, NC market, with the possibility of day, night, or mixed shifts.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Equipment Operated Fusion splicers, fiber test equipment, aerial lifts, and safety equipment. Compensation Based on experience and skill level.
