Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fiber Splicer to join our dynamic telecommunications team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic systems that form the backbone of modern communication networks. Your expertise will ensure the delivery of reliable, high-speed connectivity for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors in diverse environments, utilizing advanced tools and techniques to build and troubleshoot fiber optic networks with precision and efficiency. Your technical proficiency and commitment to safety will help us maintain top-tier network performance and customer satisfaction. Duties Install, splice, and repair fiber optic cables in outdoor and indoor environments following industry standards and safety protocols. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and other specialized machinery to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas safely. Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify signal integrity, identify faults, and troubleshoot network issues effectively. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and installation diagrams to ensure accurate cable routing and splicing procedures. Perform telecommunications cable splicing with precision using hand tools, fusion splicers, and other specialized equipment to ensure optimal signal quality. Support telecommunication network infrastructure projects by installing cables for LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and other IT infrastructure components. Climb poles or structures safely while following safety guidelines; conduct routine inspections of outdoor work sites to maintain safety standards. Collaborate with engineering teams for troubleshooting network issues or system upgrades; provide technical troubleshooting support as needed. Maintain detailed records of work performed, including splicing logs, test results, and equipment maintenance reports. Requirements Proven experience in field service operations related to fiber optic systems installation or maintenance. Must be willing to work an on call schedule as much of the work is emergency restoration. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks safely and efficiently in outdoor environments. Familiarity with diagnostic tools like voltmeters, optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR), and other telecommunications testing equipment. Strong knowledge of fiber optic cables, telecommunications testing procedures, and network infrastructure standards. Experience interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints relevant to telecommunication projects. Hands-on experience with telecommunications outside plant operations including cabling, trenching, conduit installation, and cable pulling. Skilled in using hand tools such as cutters, strippers, fusion splicers, power tools, and other essential equipment for fiber splicing. Ability to climb poles or structures safely; outdoor work experience is essential. Technical proficiency in computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN configurations; familiarity with telephony systems is a plus. Strong engineering troubleshooting skills for fiber optic networks; ability to support IT infrastructure projects when needed. Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on safety compliance; ability to interpret technical drawings accurately. $45,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
