Based in Greensboro, NC, we are growing our fiber crews and looking for technicians who take pride in clean splices, solid documentation, and getting customers online safely. The Role As a Fiber Splicing Technician, you will perform fusion splicing and fiber testing on aerial and underground OSP projects throughout North Carolina, with travel as needed to support project schedules. You will work from splice closures and pedestals to hubs and handholes, producing quality splices, accurate OTDR/loss readings, and clear as-built records. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform single-mode loose tube and ribbon fusion splicing on aerial and underground fiber plant
  • Prep, open, and reseal splice closures, pedestals, cabinets, and related OSP hardware to manufacturer and customer specs
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber with OTDR, power meter/light source, and visual fault locator; interpret traces and document results
  • Support mid-span cuts, cutovers, restoration, and emergency repair as scheduled
  • Maintain splice records, labeling, photos, and as-builts; turn in clean daily production documentation
  • Follow all safety requirements including PPE, traffic control awareness, and ladder/bucket practices
  • Travel within NC (and occasionally nearby markets) as project needs require; overnight stays may be required on some jobs
  • Care for company tools, splice trailer/van, and test equipment; flag issues early
  • Coordinate with foremen, construction crews, and project managers on schedule and splice plans
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on fiber splicing experience (OSP preferred)
  • Proven fusion splicing skill on live and dark fiber; comfortable with both aerial and underground environments
  • Experience with OTDR and basic fiber test gear; able to read and save traces
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to report points / job sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces (handholes/vaults) as required
  • Willingness to travel within North Carolina as needed
  • Strong attention to detail, safety mindset, and clear communication
  • Eligible to work in the United States; must pass background check and drug screen as required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • FOA CFOT or equivalent fiber certification; manufacturer training (e.g., Corning, AFL, Furukawa/Fitel)
  • Experience on
FTTX / ISP-OSP
builds, mid-span restoration, and customer cutovers
  • Familiarity with splice trailers, ribbon splicing, and high-count closures
  • Bucket truck / aerial lift experience or CDL (not required)
  • Prior utility contractor or telecom construction background in the Southeast Benefits Benefits package details provided during the interview process. Travel-related expenses handled per Rivers Utilities policy when overnight work is required. Location

Pay:
$25.00 - $35.00 per hour
