Job Description

Instrument Laboratory Scientist at Western Environmental Testing Laboratory (WETLAB) | Sparks, Nevada $23.00-$35.00/hour | Full-Time | Day Shift Science. Technology. Teamwork. And yes—we actually like to have fun at work. Are you curious about what's in the water, soil, and environment around us? Do you enjoy working with advanced laboratory instrumentation, solving problems, and producing data that actually matters? Western Environmental Testing Laboratory (WETLAB) is looking for an Instrument Laboratory Scientist to join our team in Sparks, Nevada. WETLAB is a full-service, fast-paced, client-focused environmental laboratory where we believe great science and a great workplace can—and should—exist together. We value work-life balance, continuous learning, teamwork, and creating an environment where people can grow professionally while enjoying the people they work with.
Our mission is simple:
provide valuable data for environmental solutions. And how we get there is guided by five core values: Trust & Respect — We treat each other well, communicate openly, and count on one another. Innovation — We ask questions, challenge the status quo, welcome new ideas, and continuously look for better ways to work. Precision — Environmental decisions depend on defensible data. Accuracy, attention to detail, and credible science matter. Flexibility — Laboratory life can change quickly. We adapt, support each other, and find solutions when priorities shift. Fun — We take our science seriously—but not ourselves all the time. We believe a positive workplace, good relationships, and a little fun make us a better team. What You'll Do As an Instrument Laboratory Scientist , you'll be part of the team turning environmental samples into reliable, defensible data. You'll prepare and analyze samples, operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, evaluate results, maintain detailed documentation, and help keep our laboratory running safely and efficiently.
Your days may include:
Preparing environmental samples for analysis. Performing analytical testing according to established SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Operating and calibrating instrumentation such as FIA analyzers, Timberline analyzers, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and CVAA systems . Reviewing and interpreting analytical data. Recording results and maintaining accurate documentation in our LIMS. Performing routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Following laboratory QC procedures and helping ensure our data meets WETLAB's quality expectations. Working alongside scientists, technicians, group leads, and other teams to solve problems and improve laboratory processes. Participating in accreditation and quality activities. Maintaining a safe, clean, organized laboratory. Learning new technology, methods, and instrumentation as our laboratory continues to grow. You'll Probably Love This Job If You... Enjoy learning how instruments work instead of simply pushing the START button. Get satisfaction from producing accurate results and figuring out why something doesn't look quite right. Can appreciate that sometimes the most exciting words in science are basically: "That's interesting..." Like working with a team but are also comfortable taking ownership of your work. Have strong attention to detail and understand that decimals, units, calibration, QC, and documentation really do matter. Enjoy solving problems, learning new techniques, and improving the way things are done. And most importantly—you want your work to have a purpose beyond simply generating numbers. The position calls for strong analytical and problem-solving skills, organization, communication, time management, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced team environment. What We're Looking For A bachelor's degree is preferred , and previous laboratory experience is a plus.
