Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Board-Level Repair Technician to perform component-level repair of hashboards - the printed circuit board assemblies at the core of Bitcoin mining hardware. The successful candidate will perform daily microscope-based rework, including ASIC (QFN) removal/replacement and placement of passive components down to 0201, using lead-free processes throughout. The role is centered on hot air rework rather than iron work. The company is also expanding into high-performance computing (HPC) server repair. The board-level skills applied to hashboard repair transfer directly to HPC hardware and technicians hired now may have the opportunity to participate in establishing that service line. Industry Experience Is Not Required Few candidates arrive with hashboard experience, and none is expected. We evaluate rework and troubleshooting ability, not familiarity with mining hardware. Board-level repair experience in any of the following settings transfers directly: Phone or tablet logic boards (microsoldering, data recovery, board-level repair operations) Laptop motherboards, GPUs, or game console boards Server, storage, or datacenter hardware repair - particularly board-level rather than FRU replacement Medical device, avionics, industrial, or military electronics repair depots Prototype, NPI, or R&D rework benches at a contract manufacturer or OEM Any production or repair environment involving fine-pitch, lead-free rework with functional pass/fail accountability Responsibilities Remove and replace ASIC (QFN) chips using hot air rework stations and a hot plate Hand-place DFN/QFN, SOT and 1206 / 0603 / 0402 / 0201 passive components in lead-free solde Diagnose and repair boards at the component level, including ASICs, capacitors, and resistors Troubleshoot circuits using a multimeter, oscilloscope and bench power supply Apply thermal interface material and install heat sinks to specified torque and alignment Test boards on fixtures to verify chip count, temperatures, and hashrate Isolate hardware faults identified during functional test, including power supplies, cabling and wire connectors, and control boards Disassemble mining units and remove hashboards in accordance with handling procedures Clean PCBs and heat sinks using approved methods, including hand brushes, compressed air and IPA Document all repairs, test results and failure points to process standard Maintain a clean, ESD-safe workstation Identify recurring failure modes and recommend upstream corrections in process or parts sourcing Qualifications Required Intermediate to advanced hand soldering and hot air rework proficiency. This is the most heavily weighted qualification and will be assessed during the hiring process. Sustained precision work on small SMD components A quality-first working standard: reworking a marginal board rather than passing it downstream Strongly Preferred Electronics troubleshooting proficiency with a multimeter, oscilloscope and bench power supply, including the ability to isolate faults to the component level
BGA / QFN / LGA
rework technique and a working understanding of thermal management Helpful Familiarity with IPC repair standards;
IPC-7711/7721
certification is a plus ESD best practices Clear written communication for repair documentation and cross-team coordination Education High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrated aptitude for electronics and solder repair, together with a strong willingness to learn, has predicted success in this role more reliably than formal credentials. Growth and Advancement As the company expands from mining hardware into HPC server repair, the scope of this position will broaden accordingly. Technicians who join at this stage will cross-train on a second class of hardware and will be well positioned for lead and specialist roles as the new service line scales. This is an opportunity to develop advanced rework and diagnostic skills in an organization early enough for individual contributions to shape its standards and processes and a chance to break into a field that is heavily gated by required degrees in most other companies.
