Job description: Automation Controls Specialist Position Summary We are seeking a skilled Automation Controls Specialist with strong process engineering and mechanical systems expertise to support the design, programming, optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automated manufacturing and industrial processes. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, industrial controls, mechanical equipment, and process improvement methodologies to enhance production efficiency, reliability, and safety. Key Responsibilities PLC Programming & Automation

• Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs for automated production equipment.
• Configure and maintain HMI and SCADA systems.
• Integrate sensors, drives, motion control systems, and industrial communication networks.
• Perform commissioning, startup, and validation of new automation systems.
• Maintain PLC documentation, backups, and control narratives.
• Support troubleshooting of electrical and control system failures. Process Engineering
• Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Optimize cycle times, throughput, quality, and equipment performance.
• Develop and implement process control strategies.
• Conduct root cause analysis for production issues and equipment downtime.
• Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. Mechanical Systems Support
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve equipment reliability issues.
• Review mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and preventative maintenance programs.
• Evaluate mechanical system performance and recommend improvements. Project Management
• Participate in automation and capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate with production, maintenance, engineering, and external vendors.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and technical deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications Required
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 3+ years of PLC programming experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience with PLC platforms such as: o Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley o Siemens o Schneider Electric o Mitsubishi Electric
• Knowledge of industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, and DeviceNet.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and process equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs. Preferred
• Experience with SCADA systems and industrial databases.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience with robotics, servo systems, and motion control.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license or relevant automation certifications.
• Experience in food processing, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, automotive, or manufacturing industries. Technical Skills
